Perlane Description & Benefits

Perlane is an injectable cosmetic dermal filler that has been used to soften wrinkles and facial folds of patients. It is a popular filler treatment for lip augmentation, facial depressions, and facial scarring. Perlane is also used for chin augmentation, filling cheek depressions, redefining lip borders, softening acne scars and reducing the severity of nasolabial folds. It can be used in both men and women. Perlane is made from non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) gel. Perlane is biodegradable so its effects are not permanent and the results of a the filler treatment tend to last six months to a year.

Perlane Procedure Steps

The Perlane treatment usually lasts between 30-45 minutes. The points of  injection are scored by the doctor with a marking pencil. Your doctor may select numerous injection points for each location to be treated. Using a very fine needle, the filler is injected just below the skin to fill out the depression. You may experience some minimal discomfort from the needle injection. Depending on the area treated, massaging may be used to smooth out the filler before it firms up. Injectable Fillers work by restoring lost volume which occurs primarily because of aging or weight loss.

Immediately after the injections, you may experience some swelling and bruising which typically subsides within 48 hours. The treated area may appear red for the first 24 hours and may last up to a week. It is safe to cover the treated areas with make-up if you wish. Avoid strenuous exercise, sun and drinking alcohol during this time. You may need to return to the doctor’s office in two to three weeks so that the results can be checked and topped up with more fillers if necessary. You can resume your normal activities immediately; however, you are advised to stay out of the sun. Ensure you use a total sun block if your skin must be unavoidably exposed to the sun.
