Will my eyes even out?
I got Asian blepharoplasty on June 2nd 2011. My eyes are uneven. My right eye tapers down and the left eye is more of a straight line. It's only been 20 days since the surgery. Will it eventually even out? And they look extremely thick. I'm so upset. I look scary.
Swelling after eyelid surgery can last from a week to over a month. You need to wait longer to let all the swelling subside before assessing the result. First talk to your surgeon and if unhappy, obtain a second opinion (from an oculoplastic surgeon).
Time heals. In 3-6 month your eyes will improve. The swelling will be down and the scars of the skin and under the skin will mature and soften up. If after that period of time you are still unhappy talk to your surgeon or get a 2nd opinion for possible revision.
It is much too early to make a final assessment of your result. It can take 3-6 months for all the swelling in your upper lids the dissappear. If you can fully close your eyes and have no conjunctivitis it is best to wait out you concerns. Any revision work to even out your eyes is best done at a later date when accurate assessment can be made and total healing has taken place. An experienced surgeon should easily be able to correct them accurately, pick someone with asian blepharoplasty experience.Richard Galitz M.D.,F.A.C.S.
