There are many opinions on the placement of breast implants. As a woman physician, sensitive to the future mammographies of my patients, I usually prefer to place the implants under the chest muscle. My preference is to place the implants through a 2 inch incision hidden in the breast fold. They may also be placed though the armpit. Incision through the navel may sound like a good idea, but in some cases it results in a noticeable "V" shaped scar from the tube that is inserted through the navel up to the breast area to move the implants into place. Your PS will advise if the augmentation alone will create enough lift for your breasts, or if a mastopexy is needed with the augmentation.
