Clitoral hood reduction is an excellent procedure for you to reduce the bulkiness of the clitoral area. There are two major techniques used. One technique uses upside down U incisions (more)

Did you get your surgery? Very hard to find anyone posting after clitoral reduction. Rather than the more frequent hood reduction. I see Dr Alter performs these;

Sounds very scary. I would really like to know how you got on if you went ahead. Thanks Francis.

Congratulations on your successful and safe surgery. I am very glad you did your due diligence and homework before having surgery. That is probably the most important decision you will make. Choosing the best trained and most competent surgeon, one who does labial and vaginal surgery as their only primary surgery, is key in this process. There are outstanding plastic surgeons, gynecologists, urologists, and urogynecologists who perform labial surgeries. No specialty has a lock on this new emerging field of surgery.

Your recovery should be free of problems if you keep your wound edges "tension free" to avoid a separation. In my practice, I like the use of estrogen cream to encourage new collagen formation and to keep the tissues soft as it heals. We also use Collagen Cream to encourage great healing and reduced scars. This is very new and i find it very helpful for my patients. Do not look down there everyday and do not pull on the wound edges to inspect the incision and the appearance. We actually just like our patients to keep the surgical site clean and dry. Soap and water, gentle dabbing.

Good luck to the "New You."

Warm regards,

Labioplasty
  Labiaplasty done March 2011 by Dr. Alter
May 2, 2011 4:42 PM

Hi all,

I have had labiaplasty and some of my clitorial hood removed by surgery because I would get constant irritation and discomfort. I got the procedure done by Dr. Alter, and I would not trust anyone other than him to do it. The operation took 2 hours and I was under twilight anesthesia. I didn't feel anything then. I did feel some mild pain after I woke up from the procedure but I took some pain killer and it was actually not that bad. It was uncomfortable to walk though.. There was some drips of blood for a few hours but then it stopped. Eventually I then healed completely after 6weeks. I did not feel any pain but there was swelling that was mild. I had mild swelling for 4 months (which is normal from labiaplasty) and now I feel great. My parents were really against me having this procedure done but I couldn't accept the fact that I have to feel this pain when it can be easily fixed by surgery. DO NOT go to someone who has little experience in this field. Make sure its someone like Dr. Gary Alter, he specializes in this and not other plastic surgeries eg. rhinoplasty etc. Do not go to your gynecologist either, mine was "uncomfortable" to do this because they don't get trained in medical school how to do plastic surgery. Good luck to all you ladies, my heart goes out to you all. This is a difficult issue to live with, and I hope all you recieve great results. P.S. He charges $6500US which is not bad for getting rid of a huge burden that some of us may carry. I know some places are half that price but it is so much easier to make another $3500 then to live with a horrible experience. Also in the operating room there are like 5 nurses and two doctors: Dr. Alter and the anesthesialogist. ALSO, I would love to hear other ladies experience or thoughs with Dr. Alter and labiaplasty. I have found this really a life changing event. When I first told my doctor about this he basically told me there is no hope in you ever going back to normal. I never used to have long labia, they stretched with age; I am 23. I was tramautized and I hope none of you ladies had to experience that. My doctor scared me and so did my gynecologist saying that your going to get scars and not heal properly and get infections but I didn't. Dr. Alter's success rate for labiaplasty is 98%, read it in his academically published journal article.
I wait for your replies.
love,
Labioplasty :)
