Rhinoplasty - Still Swollen After One Year - Scar Tissue?

Hello. I had an open rhinoplasty performed exactly a year ago. I got a severe sinus infection just after the procedure. In addition, I never taped or massaged my nose. The PS and assistant just said taping would help the swelling go down quicker, but never stressed it or said scar tissue could form.

I went in for my one year checkup and my nose tip is just a hard ball. The plastic surgeon gave me a steroid injection to help with the swelling/scar tissue formation. Will this injection really work? Should I be massaging my nose now? I know I could get a revision surgery to remove the scar tissue (if this is really what happened), but who's to say the scar tissue won't form again?

Thank you for your help.

You might have had an onlay tip graft placed on top of your tip cartilages during your surgery. With that graft there, your nose will never soften.

A columellar strut could be causing the stiffness of your tip, not to the same degree as in the case of the onlay tip graft.

You should ask your doctor about what he did during your primary.
