Are the elements of your face in harmony? When we look in the mirror, one of the first things we see is our nose, and if we're not happy with the way our nose fits our face it can take on even larger dimensions. Whether it's caused by nature or injury, if your nose appears to stand out, it can affect your entire self-image. Cosmetic surgery of the nose (rhinoplasty), also known as a nose job, can enhance the shape, size, and overall appearance of your nose. Nose job surgery can decrease the size, smooth bumps or depressions, contour the shape, and even correct conditions that affect your breathing. After rhinoplasty surgery, your nose will be in harmony with the rest of your facial features.
Rhinoplasty Surgery. Nose job surgery is one of the most frequently performed surgeries, and it is one of the most exacting procedures because it can significantly alter your appearance. Before rhinoplasty surgery, you and Dr. Norman Markus will consult on the various possibilities, considering the shape of your face, your age, your ethnic identity, the structure of your nasal bones and cartilage, as well as the thickness and condition of your skin. The procedure Dr. Norman Markus uses to perform your rhinoplasty will be determined by your anatomy and the results you want. For example, Dr. Norman Markus may make alterations to increase or decrease your nasal bridge, reduce the size or width of your nose, narrow the nostrils, reshape the tip, or change the angle between your nose and upper lip.
There are two ways to perform rhinoplasty: open and closed. In open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made across the vertical strip of tissue (columella) that separates your nostrils as well as within the nose. Closed rhinoplasty is performed from within the nose, making the incision inside the nostril. Working either through the open or closed rhinoplasty incisions, your nose's framework of bone and cartilage will be sculpted to the shape you desire. Dr. Norman Markus may reshape the bones in your nose or build up certain areas using nasal cartilage and bone as well as cartilage from another part of your body or synthetic materials. The skin and soft tissues are then redraped over your new reshaped framework. If the lower part of the nose is being narrowed or the nostrils are being reduced, small wedges of skin at the base of the nostrils may be removed through incisions that are hidden in the nose's natural creases.
