Check with Other Surgeons for Reconstruction, February 10, 2008, 1:54 pm
First of all, let me say she seems to be a very personable & caring doctor, and probably is very capable. However, my experience was not so good. I just suggest you check other reconstructive surgeons, too. I had a bilateral mastectomy due to cancer several years ago, and she did the reconstruction. Prior to the surgery, every time I mentioned her name to my other doctors, I was told she was the BEST. However, I did note that she only had one sample picture of the results from a previous surgery she had done, and it was only one breast removed. Both times she was there at the time of surgery, at the placement of the temporary implant and the final one, I ended up with an infection. I've had plenty of surgeries and have never had an infection afterwards. The 1st one was due to e-coli bacteria, which she tried to blame on the hospital. I had the 2 procedures done at different facilities, tho. The 2nd time, it required a Vancomyicin drip 10 days in a row, because nothing else would work. My breasts are odd-looking and look quite different. I have seen TV shows of transgender men who became women and have better breasts than I do. Also, my right implant has moved partially under my arm. I have talked to 2 women at work who had single mastectomies, to see who they used. It turned out that they had also used her and were not happy, either. I finally called to make an appt. after a couple of years and was told she no longer takes Blue Cross/Blue Shield Ins. Oh, well! I'm almost 60, so it's no big deal I guess. I'm not saying not to use her, but I just suggest you also check with someone who has more samples to show you.
