Breast Lift Augment / Mixed Feelings, November 4, 2010, 6:23 am
I have very mixed feelings about the Rosenstock Center after my procedure.
I am now about 4 weeks post op and I would like to recount my experience as objectively as possible, to assist anyone considering going to C.R. for surgery.
First of all, the center is very clean and well staffed with English speakers. Your wait time is short and being in the center is overall a good experience, you are treated well.
I do have to say though, my biggest disappointment came in my initial consult with Dr. Cohen. Very little time was spent going over what I wanted, he tends to be very rushed through every step of this process. Keep in mind, they are a volume surgery center, therefore, there is very much, "get them in, get them out" mentality in this place. I had to ask him to bring me the implants to show me so we could discuss sizing etc, he made the statement "we will just see what looks best on you". This would not happen in the states, there would have been a reasonable amount of time spent on what I wanted and expected. My advice is go in very prepared and know exactly what you want because NO time will be spent discussing this once you are there. This is a very important step that was completely glossed over. That is my biggest grievance and subsequently, I am not satisfied with my size.
I also developed a staph infection on my left breast. This started to develop before I left and Dr. Cohen sent me home with oral and injectable antibiotics which I did not respond to. The long and short of it is, I ended up with a $1000 ER bill because the infection started to rage out of control. This certainly offset a lot of the money I saved going to Costa Rica. Dr. Cohen, did however, respond to me throughout that process in a timely manner, but only really seemed concerned when I told him he wasn't taking my care seriously. I'm not sure if he was insulted or I bruised his ego, but he was certainly more on top of things once I made that statement. I would like to be clear: The Rosenstock Center is clean and sterile, you can just as easily develop a staph infection in the US as many know. However, in the case of infection, the advantages of having your doctor near are obvious. Be aware - they cannot prescribe antibiotics for you from there, you will have to see your own doctor here and many are apprehensive to touch you when you have gone out of country for a procedure.
I would like to summarize by saying that Dr. Cohen in my opinion is a competent plastic surgeon. I feel the job he did on my breasts was good for the money I spent. However, I'm not sure I will venture out of the country again for plastic surgery. What is a very post surgical problem became a nightmare when my surgeon was in another country.
