Great experience, July 25, 2013, 8:19 pm
I went to Dr Lee mainly for under eye blepharoplasty and rhinoplasty. I think he did a fantastic job on my eyes, I look years younger. I also had a hump on my nose removed. I'm still waiting to see how the nose actually looks in a few weeks and months since it's only been 9 days since surgery - however, so far I think it looks great.
Having never had a nice nose, I was not sure what I wanted but I told him before surgery that I did not think I needed alar reduction, only hump removal. He said ok and that he'd have to evaluate it after going in. He also suggested to raise up the bridge between the eyes a bit with ear cartilage, and I trusted him with that since I figured he knew esthetics of noses. Anyway, it will take me a while to get used to this new nose and I'm still not sure whether I love the profile but I feel confident saying that I think I'll like it once all the swelling goes down. The problem is probably not the nose, but more that I have a flat forehead and so some parts of my profile are not as esthetically pleasing as they could be with the new nose, haha. However, I don't plan on fixing anything else right now. I think having some imperfections on the face is great and makes one look less plastic-like. For example, I only have one dimple and I think it adds character! Basically, I wasn't looking for perfection but only an enhancement of my features and I believe that's what Dr Lee did for me.
The only negative of the experience is that I did feel rushed, and I wish Dr Lee had been more forthcoming - if you don't ask, I don't think he volunteers information so you just have to be informed and make sure to stop him to ask all the questions you have. Dr Lee does do a much better job at answering questions by emails so that might be the way to go if you want to ask anything before and after surgery.
I traveled quite far to get surgery with Dr Lee and stayed in the apt that was available which was great. I also had a great nurse, Jamey, who stayed with me after surgery for 4 hrs and I love her - highly recommend her. The staff was also great, especially Mizuko? (I forgot her name), but she was really sweet and put me at ease when I came in for surgery because I was nervous. The anesthesiologist was fantastic and talked to me the whole time they were putting the IV in, etc...he really distracted me with conversation and before I knew it, I woke up and the surgery was over!
Overall, I had a great experience. I had minimal bruising, some swelling as expected on day 3 and 4, but by day 6 I was able to fly back home (with a splint on the nose) with light makeup and I looked decent. My eyes didn't even look like I'd had surgery 6 days prior, it was amazing. The majority of swelling has gone down by now, day 9. This may be due to the manner in which Dr Lee must have handled my tissues, which was carefully. In the end, my doctors at home had wondered why I'd chosen to travel so far to Beverly Hills to get surgery instead of doing it at home with them, but I really wanted someone who specialized and operated mainly on Asians. My face was too important a feature to take a chance with other surgeons who may be as talented but didn't have the experience working with Asians. In the end, I'm glad I went with Dr Lee.
I still feel self-conscious because I know I had surgery and a few strangers have stared at me - but surprisingly after staring they just commented that I was beautiful, haha - I have never been called beautiful in my life! I only wish I had done this sooner, rather than sitting on it as I had done for a few years. I highly recommend Dr Lee.
