Look As Young As You Feel!, December 24, 2010, 9:15 pm
I was a Playboy Bunny in the early 1980’s. As a 25 year-old, I lived in a world full of glamour, celebrities and perfect women. I was one of the sixty-some bunnies at the Los Angeles Playboy Club. We were weighed monthly and suspended if our “hire weight” wasn’t maintained. We were expected to be beautiful and youthful. We were instructed to maintain our “bunny image” or else we were suspended. Nose jobs, boob jobs, liposuction and acid peels were all fairly commonplace in a time before Extreme Makeover and The Swan. Weekly parties at Hef’s mansion, guest appearances, conventions, sporting events and working as a waitress at the Playboy Club were squeezed in between trips to the gym, the tanning salon, the hairdresser and appointments for manicures and facials. I knew then that I would always take maintenance steps to preserve my looks. I would absolutely refuse to “age gracefully.” What all the bunnies knew then was that the earlier you started with “nips and tucks”, the better the results you ultimately achieved. This was because youthful skin has greater elasticity and this can help you achieve a more natural looking result.
When I turned 40, I had what I will call my mid-life crisis. I quit my job, divorced my husband of 14 years and found a younger man, I had the typical cliché experience of waking up one morning and decided that I hated going to work. I recognized that after years of counseling and trying to forgive a man who had cheated on me . . . that I just didn’t care anymore.
My career path had always taken me down interesting roads. I now found myself in a male-dominated industry that was very focused on entertainment, fine dining and a world of perpetual celebration. I happened to be a little older than my male counterparts. It was important to my position in this job to appear not only attractive, but professional and polished as well.
Back to the younger man (who has movie-star good looks), in case you are thinking that I pursued plastic surgery at his urging, that’s not the case. I actually had to convince him that this was something that I really wanted to do for myself and not to please anyone else.
My face was falling. My skin had lost much of its youthful elasticity and I had a jowlish look that made me look old and tired. I really needed a facelift. After leaving Dr. Martello’s office for a plastic surgery consultation, I had a list of previous clients who were willing to discuss their plastic surgery experiences with me. Dr. Martello encouraged me to call them so that I could make an informed decision and know exactly what to expect. I called a patient named Susan who was about my age and had a surgery similar to mine. I had a list of questions. Susan raved about the experience and said that she only wished that she had done it years before! She gave me firsthand feedback on the fact that there was literally no pain and minimal bruising. Susan was great to talk to and reinforced my feelings about Dr. Martello as an excellent plastic surgeon to perform my surgery.
I can honestly tell you that I experienced no real pain with the face and neck lift. I really hadn’t told anyone about my surgery so I looked forward to surprising my friends at the holiday parties that we had scheduled. When I went to the first of the parties at ten days after surgery, my friends couldn’t believe how great I looked! Everyone agreed that the surgery had taken at least fifteen years off of me! No one could believe how natural my face looked and how little bruising there was just days after surgery.
In this day and age, we have the technology to live longer and live healthier. So, why not look how you feel? I am happy with my decision and ecstatic with my results! You only live once, so why not live it in a body that reflects your youthful inner spirit? ! THANK YOU DR. MARTELLO!!!
