face lift from dr. cheney-mobius syndrome, August 21, 2014, 6:27 am
Reviewer: 12345six

i have read a slight few of negitive comments about dr mack cheney out of the thousands of procedures dr. cheney has done. all i can say is this. i was born with mobius syndrome so dr cheney did a complexed face lift on me that improved my appearance. dr cheney is not a head and neck surgeon acting as a plastic surgeon, as stated by someone elses comment, but is a board certified facial and reconstructive plastic surgeon with elite training and much experience in education and surgeries in this area. someone mentioned a sanction against him. a sanction does not mean an md is a low quality surgeon. it can mean a md had an administrative issue or a financial issue or an issue that is not necessarily direct misconduct. dr cheney has done great work, is caring, has helped many. -tom t.

RUN AWAY - FAST!, December 20, 2013, 9:55 am

I had surgery from this doctor. I went in for fixing up health issues that involved poor breathing problems from an acquired nasal deformity.
The doctor didn't take time to discuss with me any of the aesthetics. I trusted that he didn't do this with me because he "knew" what he was doing, plus I was there to fix my breathing and nothing else. I had a diagnosed sleep apnea from an earlier problem.
Insurance was covering this operation because it was solely for breathing, even so, I would have consider finding some funding for cosmetic work if necessary.

I went in for the surgery.

I came out initially with better breathing.

But after a few weeks my breathing got bad again and I was left with the same problem.

I hardly could breathe out of my nose AND my nose became very ugly, aesthetically as the nose "settled into shape" after healing.

I had to go again and get my nose REOPERATED ON.

I had to pay extra expense for this and find a different doctor. In addition, I had to go through the same process again.

If Mack Cheney had kept his hands to himself, stopped working on patients then, I would NEVER HAVE HAD TO HAVE REDONE THIS OPERATION.

AND I WOULD NEVER HAD HAD TO HAVE THE BAD OPERATION IN 2002 by him - exposing me to unnecessary general anaesthesis, etc.

Very frustrating but even more so, who knows what could have been caused by that operation and maybe I'm lucky that the guy didn't slip during the operation and I'd be even worse off.

Could it have been possible for this doctor to have known he might have had a problem and quit working and saved some patients from more problems?

The problem I saw back then was that he didn't fix my nose properly as he STATED HE WOULD. I believe he's no longer practicing and his record has a sanction against him or a removal of his license. I do not know for sure, but this is what I think I read on the medical boards.

There is also info on him regarding alcholism, so I sure feel I was lucky to have gotten out as I did!

Even so I believe he's teaching at a university now. Great huh?

Do lousy work = get your license suspended = still get a great job with great pay

Mack Cheney is no longer a licensed doctor, March 4, 2012, 5:09 pm

I had a sliding genioplasty. I had a very weak chin- particularly noticeable in profile. Dr. Cheney was the only surgeon who was against chin implants, a procedure that I was uncomfortable about. He had a good reputation and seemed very confident about this procedure (the details are truly gruesome).
For the first 2 years or so i was very satisfied with the results but wished there was a way to make my chin a little more pronounced. During these post SG appointments I was also considering a mini face lift. So glad i never had the chance. An acquaintance had been dissatisfied with her results. Also, there were certain intangible signs of something being "off". I did a lot of research and discovered that Cheney had been disciplined a couple of times and put on probation due to (I read this) a drinking problem when working with patients. The end of this story is that appox. 2 years ago he lost his license. I have to say that i felt very sorry for him. He was known to spend a month every year in a poor, 3rd world country doing reconstuctive surgery on children with cleft palette- for free. The guy obviously had a good heart...

Major Disappointment, February 24, 2011, 1:11 pm

I had a mini lower face lift and lower eyes done. I had had a mini lift 10 years earlier and knew what to expect. At that time I had my upper eyes done. Here's my story: I had about 3 initial consultations with Dr. Cheney. I had to have 3 to get the necessary information out of him. He didn't sit down but had his hand on the door knob the entire 5 minutes I was given each time. And each time his attitude was, "Don't worry! You'll love it!" (this is the part where I should have never returned) On the day of my surgery I arrived on time and had to wait about a half-hour. I was then given local anesthesia and waited. And waited. And waited. He had to come back in to re-inject me! (again - I should have left but at this point I had paid in full and was frankly in a vulnerable position with my half-numb face) When he finally got around to me I had waited nearly 3 hours. He said that he had an emergency before me. Okay, surgery completed and I have high hopes. He sent me home with someone else's pain Rx! I couldn't fill my Rx and had to have the office call it in. At my first post-op appt. I expressed my dissatisfaction because I looked pretty much the same. Same thing at 2nd post-op appt. He blew me off each and every time I spoke with him. He told me I wouldn't see the "full results" until a year or TWO had gone by. Can I just say right here that he is NOT a plastic surgeon. He is a head and neck surgeon. This is why he is less expensive than a plastic surgeon. I didn't want him to operate on me any further so I just gave up. It was a complete waste of time and money (probably around $5000.) About a year and a half later I found my way to Dr. Leonard Miller, an actual plastic surgeon who looked at my work and agreed with me that it had not made much of a difference and in fact had make my lower eyelids look worse by removing too much skin. His nurse told me that Dr. Miller sees quite a few former patients of Dr. Cheney's. I have also seen Dr. Richard Barlett for a consult. I was extremely impressed with him as well. My only regret is that I did not file a complaint with the hospital.
