I did a lot of research in Oahu on plastic surgeons, particularly focusing on breast augmentation. I work in an industry where many of my co-workers have had this procedure done-- many of them have gone to Dr. Chu, and I was mainly influenced by their physical results. (His work is nice-- very natural looking... well, for those who didn't overdo it anyway). However, when I consulted with Dr. Chu, I felt like he was too busy to listen to what I truly wanted, and I felt as if he rushed me into a decision. My decision was made strictly by pictures. He never offered sizers or anything. He also has a reputation for trying to convince you to "go bigger." I'm glad I didn't listen to him. I was adament about my decision on size and he did respect that. He never shook my hand, said thank you, or made me feel like he cared about me as a person. In fact, I felt more like patient #12301. I have had the procedure done and have been to two post-op appointments. I have yet to actually see him since he put the IV in my hand. I've only seen his nurse (whom is very professional). After the procedure, he never came in to see how I was doing. However, he did personally call me that night, and I was well pleased with that. Dr. Chu is very knowledgeable, and he does inform his patients with everything they need to know regarding pre-op, risks, post-op, etc. He is very concerned about the patient being 50% responsible for how the results end up (how you choose to recover with no/minimal movement). The office smells a little funky, almost moldy. But the exam room is warm, which is nice. The procedure is done right in the office, but luckily, right across from Queen's Hospital-- a big plus, in my opinion, in the unlikely event of something going wrong. His incision is made right under the nipple-- little or no scarring-- big plus!! He gave a card informing me of the size of the implant and the CC's on each side. He did adjust them according to his belief of my assymetrical breasts. I trusted him with that-- he's been doing this a long time. The difference is only 25CCs, so not a huge one. It's too early to know my results, but so far, I am pleased with the look of them. I had little discomfort, even though I opted not to take the pain pump. The only thing that bothered me were the drains coming out of my armpits for five days. That was very irritating. Dr. Chu was also voted the best of the best in 2007 by the people of Hawaii. He specializes in correcting Asian eyelids, but I would recommend him for breast augmentation as well. Dr. Chu is very professional, but not very personal.
