I live over an hour away from Southfield, but I was willing to make the drive, considering Dr. Awada's credentials (before I had read some of these reviews). I made an appointment with Dr. Awada for a consultation. My entire situation was explained to the staff member when I scheduled my appointment (considering prophylactic double mastectomy with breast reconstruction). I asked if there was a charge for a consulatation and was told "no". I arrived for my appointment and was apprehensive based on other's reviews and experiences. I asked the receptionist-just to confirm-if there was a fee for the consultation and was again told "no". I was brought back to the exam room and there I sat in the lovely paper shirt-feeling very exposed-for some time. I eventually gave my history to a medical assistant and was told the doctor would be right in. Within minutes another young woman came in and asked how I would be paying for my consultation fee or if I wanted to bill my insurance. There I was, naked with a paper shirt, and this twit was asking my for money. I explained that I was told twice that there was no charge. She disappeared (apparently to speak to the God doctor) and returned saying that it was against the law for her to see me for a medical reason and not bill the insurance company. This is, in fact, untrue. I do not have a medical condition and was only seeking a consultation. I was blown away-and said so-that someone wanting an augmentation or a nose job was not charged but someone wanting to save their own life had to pay. I would have paid the money, had I known up front what to expect-no big deal. But the way this all played out was inconsiderate and unprofessional. The office staff and doctor have no compassion. I guess she is all about the money. The icing on the cake is that Dr. Awada doesn't even do what I was asking to consult her about. The office scheduled my appointment, knowing what I needed and how far I had to drive. This is a horrible business. I don't care how good, or well known she is. Dr. Awada and her staff are inconsiderate, unprofessional and without compassion.
