MY PERSONAL REVIEW

I am definately not happy with Dr Hodgkison. There were complications after my surgery as i contracted a staph aureus infection. I understand that infections are always an etremely rare risk of surgery and i was one of the unlucky ones. However i was not impressed with his behaviour at all.
Following my procedure, he was not going to come out to let me know how the procedure went, until my sister and i complained to the nurse after being informed that no he does not normally see patients after the surgery and then he came out, gave us minimal information and told me he would tell me more at the next consultation. I did not see him at the next consultation, just the nurse.
Then a week later i went back to have the splint taken of, and that was when we saw that there were layers of skin missing of the tip of my nose. Not realising at that exact moment that this was not normal, having your doctor walk in and say "oh i've never seen that before." was not the most comforting thing to hear.
Although he had absolutely no idea what it was, he did not refer me on to someone who might have known. It took about 3 months before he referred me on to someone else and by that time the damage was done and now i have a scar on the tip of my nose with little chunks of my nose missing (after being assured that it would not scar).
I went and saw him a number of times as a result of the infection. He never had much information or time for me. Always rushed me along, called me his "little problem" and then proceeded to ask me what my name was.
When i confronted him with my disatisfaction, i was informed that he had seen a lot worse than my nose and that in essence that it was no big deal.
If you are considering surgery and there are complications, please do not take the "wait and see approach" as i did with my doctor. Had i seen someone who knew about this earlier, steps could have been taken to minimalize the damage.
