This office has really changed since I first went there in '02. Although you see very little of the doctor himself, his staff must work on commissions with all the products and procedures they try to push. Even down to a facial microdermabrasion wand. And they tried to sell this to someone who has rosacea?

I have read Beer's book and while I believe he is knowledgeable in his field, I also feel he is more interested in making a buck than making a patient happy.

In the past, I have needed skin cancer surgeries, but this office seems focused mainly on the cosmetic. Now I go to a different dermatologist in Jupiter. I have my cosmetic needs taken care of by my plastic surgeon. Not that I can afford many procedures anymore.

To be specific, I received 4 or 5 IPL treatments in Dr. Beer's office for spider veins and sun spots on my face and chest back in '03. None of it improved, and in fact appeared to get worse. When I mentioned this, the nurse took out my before pictures and when she couldn't prove me wrong; she acted baffled. Meanwhile, I paid at least $1200 and was not offered any form of compensation.

When I expressed displeasure over the sun spots and wrinkles on my chest and asked Beer about a chemical peel, he dismissed that option and suggested Botox. I was an idiot to go for it when I was looking for something more permanent. The $700 Botox didn't work from week ONE. Even if it had, it would have been temporary. That was in '07 and I never went back.

Beer also charged more for line fillers than my plastic surgeon, and charged $700 for Botox on my forehead wrinkles while my PS charges me $325. Apparently this is because Beer charges by the unit and not the injection site.

I believe a lot of doctors push the line fillers/Botox because it's much more cost effective with less chance of complications. The patient has to keep coming back and they make more money in the long run. I had a chemical peel on my face once, and I had a great result which lasted at least 5 years. Lasers are too expensive and risky for me. Not to mention the outcome is not guaranteed. Why take that chance?

The only positive thing I can say I had done in this office was laser hair removal. As it became more popular, I had additional areas done by someone else who was more reasonably priced.

Bottom line in my opinion is that this doctor is greedy. Not to mention he is about as personable as a wet noodle. He is in and out without managing the simplest of small talk. As a patient, you feel you are nothing but a number or something on an assembly line. With all the money I spent in his office over 5 years, I could have had a face lift. Wish I could have that money back now.
