I was very sad to read your review of Dr. Grant Stevens. My name is Catherine Genender. I am a registered nurse and the director of the Marina Outpatient Surgery Center where Dr. Stevens operates. Professionally, I have been in the plastic surgery world for over thirty years, and have worked with some of the best surgeons in the LA area, Dr. Stevens being one of the finest. On a personal note, I have been a patient as well...and a very happy patient of Dr. Stevens. During a consultation, size is discussed in depth. Patients are encouraged to bring photos or look through photos in the office. The photos that are choosen are then brought to the surgery center and posted on the board in the OR next to the patient's before photos so that we can come as close as anatomically possible to the desired result. It is extrememly rare that a patient is unhappy with their size...maybe once every couple of years. If patients are unhappy, we hope that they will come back to us and let us help with the change that they want. As for waiting, well unfortunately, there are very few instances in the medical profession where waiting isn't part of deal. Patients are always given as much time as they need with the doctors and support staff and if they have a lot of questions or they are particularily anxious, that may put us behind schedule. But when it is your turn, you will also get the benefit of as much time as you need to discuss your procedure and to have your questions answered. This is true of your post-op visits as well. Of course for me, the portion of your response that was the most upsetting was your comments about what you think was said to you in the recovery room. Dr. Stevens does check on you in the recovery room before he starts his next case. Patients are usually asleep and there is a nurse with you at all times. If a doctor said something unkind to a patient, beleive me, I would hear about it immediately. Our facility is very small and intimate. The OR door is directly across from the recovery room, and my office is situated just steps away so that I can always be aware of what is happening in both areas. I can assure you that we have never heard anything unkind said to any patient, by any of our doctors including Dr. Stevens. We maintain a very nurturing environment for our patients and take pride in the care that is given here by all of the staff, doctors included. One thing to remember is that the post anesthetic time is a time when you are under the influence of anesthesia drugs and pain medication. Most patients are asleep, but may have some vague recollections that may not be related to reality. It is an altered dream state. I am so sorry that your memory is that of an unkindness, but I assure that it never happened. I wish I had known that you felt that way, as I would have come over to the office to talk to you and help you to feel more comfortable about your experience with us.
