After extended discussions with Dr. Michael L. Eisemann, a Plastic Surgeon, I agreed to have him perform a Revision Rhinoplasty with Ear Cartilage Graft in order to correct a concave deviation in the columella of my nose.

During the pre-surgical consultation, Dr. Eisemann fully & emphatically agreed to my specific, articulate & special instructions to only use the ear cartilage graft for a supporting structure & NOT to use a septal cartilage graft – as I was concerned for the aesthetic consequences associated with any structural changes to my nose by altering the septal cartilage as well as any potentially damage due to the collapse of the delicate septal cartilage framework. Additionally, the physician agreed to my clear & concise limitations that he make absolutely no further alteration to my nose.
To my grave detriment h0wever, Dr. Eisemann egregiously decided to conduct an entirely different surgery program than he promised: a SeptoRhinoplasty with Septal Cartilage Graft – thereby altering the septum of my nose along with its overall 3 dimensional shape & structure. Furthermore, on his own whim he decided to completely alter the shape to the tip of my nose. All of this was expressly against my specific wishes & his previous agreement prior to surgery.

As a direct result of his unauthorized surgery, my face has sustained a shocking transformation wholly of bad design. Dr. Eisemann was reckless in his disregard to the promised procedure & my trust in his expertise.

Dr Eisemann knew or should have known the severe emotional distress & suffering that would ensue following alterations to my nose that we specifically agreed he would not undertake. A nose is a nose because of its shape! It is the underlying cartilage that gives it shape; and, recreates a subtle contour that defines the normalcy of each nasal subunit. When I look into the mirror, I feel fright, grief, shame, humiliation, embarrassment, anger, apprehension and worry. I am unable to enjoy social events the way I used to before the surgery; and, feel withdrawn now from family & friends. In summary, I feel depressed, tired & lack motivation. Additionally, I am now unemployed, feel an inability to sustain myself financially and I fully believe my diminished self concept has created an impairment of my earning capacity.

When I asked Dr. Eisemann why he so completely defied performing the procedure we had agreed upon, his answer was,

“....I didn't want to create another surgery site…..”

In other words, he didn’t want to complicate the surgery by having two areas to work on.

Obviously his feeble explanation merely served to add insult to physical injury. If Dr. Eisemann was fearful of the two-step procedure, why did he make the reassuring promise pre-surgery to use ear cartilage rather than septal cartilage?

I have received a 2nd consult by another physician who demonstrated to me that in the current Plastic Surgery Texts there is absolutely no specific contraindication nor complication associated with performing the Revision Rhinoplasty with Ear Cartilage Graft as he had originally promised. Ironically, the only contraindication was in Dr. Eisemann using the septal cartilage rather than the ear cartilage as he originally promised!

By using the septal cartilage rather than the ear cartilage, Dr. Eisemann changed the overall 3 dimensional support, shape & appearance of my nose and risked damage to the highly vascularized septal cartilage lining.

In other words, Dr. Eisemann outrageous claim about scrapping the ear cartilage over the septal cartilage was a lie; and, his promises & reassurances to me specifically about the surgical procedures were intentionally deceptive!

I would have never elected the surgery had it not been for Dr. Eisemann repeated misrepresentations & knowing falsehoods which were designed for the sole purpose of stringing me along until I was under his knife & in a position of vulnerability!
