I used to have very heavy, large, pendulous breasts. I figured that reducing them would not be a problem for any well-known plastic surgeon that routinely did breast reductions (after all, who gets reductions done but the big-breasted?).

I went to my large group practice’s plastic surgeon because he was local, had easy access to my medical history, and he was listed in “Best Doctors” articles. I saw him twice, got insurance approval, set a date for surgery, and did all my pre-op exams. Six days before surgery, he called me to say he didn’t think he could do it; it was beyond his experience. I was angry and devastated, but glad he didn’t attempt the surgery.

I searched for a new doctor. This was difficult because every plastic surgeon said they did breast reductions, but offered no information on how often. I looked for photographic proof that each doctor had worked on someone with a similar body to mine. I was astounded that so many physicians used the same photos of surgeries that other people had done!

Then, I came upon Dr. Alan Engler’s information. It was impressive that he had done some before-and-after breast transformations on TV shows I knew, and he had written a book. But mostly, I was ecstatic to see that the photos in his books and on his website were of real patients whom he had personally operated on. And there were more than a few whose bodies looked like mine.

Dr. Engler was professional and friendly, as was his staff. He took many more measurements than my original doctor had, and explained everything to me. This time I felt confident. I saw him a few times before surgery. He personally handled my insurance issues and hospital scheduling. He returned any call I made to him within fifteen minutes (It was like having a concierge doctor!).

He did a beautiful job and I am very happy with the results. I did have lots of post-op concerns, and the first week Dr. Engler called me almost every day to see how I was doing. He also let me come in for several post-op check-ups to reassure me that I was healing properly. I would recommend him to anyone considering this surgery.
