Researching a surgeon in NYC can be very daunting, especially since there are so many, and the range of what they charge you is completely arbitrary. Luckily, my friend had had several procedures with Dr. Engler and looked fantastic so she had done her homework for me. I first went for a consult last year, and found Dr. Engler to be very matter of fact, while still being personable, and obviously, extremely knowledgeable on his craft. The only thing I regret was that I waited a whole year to do it, because I thought that with "just a little bit more discipline" I would be able to lose the fat in my hips and outer thighs, which at 32, became resistant to diet and exercise.
I finally did it on March 20, 2014 and my results were immediate. I am pretty tiny as it is (5'4, 109lbs.) so the results were instantly visible, but because I am so small, I was in a lot of pain, since he went through my lower back to get the hips. I really wasn't prepared for this type of pain, which is comparable to falling on your tailbone on concrete stairs. However, every time I looked in the mirror I forgot the pain and was thrilled to try on my skinny jeans without the muffin top greeting me hello in the reflection!
The surgery is performed in Dr. Engler's office, which for some reason, some patients have an issue with. For me it means this doctor is skilled enough to be comfortable in "his house" and knows what he's doing. I've had the best results (rhinoplasty when I was younger and this) performed in the doctors office. The surgery itself took three hours max, I had to wear suppression garment, which was on when I woke up (it has a hole so you can go the bathroom). His assistant was there getting me everything I needed and was really kind and patient, as I kept asking for sugar! One of my stitches did start bleeding when I got home and I had to take the garment off to change the dressing and I was very dizzy and nauseous the first couple of days. By the third day I was walking but in a lot of pain, and am still in some mild pain, weeks later. It is definitely not an impulse surgery, if you think you'll be up and about!
Overall I am 100% glad I chose Dr. Engler and had this procedure. Not only does he offer competitive pricing, but he's an expert "sculptor" and I got exactly what I wanted on my hips. My only minor issue is that I really wanted my inner thighs done and he had told me a hard no, because he doesn't like doing that area, but today when I had my second follow up he asked "Did we do your inner thighs?" So I was a little surprised by that, but he must see so much flesh...
