After much research I chose Dr. Amorn Poomee for two sets of cosmetic surgery. On May 17 a face, neck and browlift and on May 21 a breast reduction/lift. Bumrungrad Hospital and particularly Dr. Poomee, his wife who has overseen patient care with him for the past 38 years, and his staff (on the 9th floor) were all extremely attentive to my needs. There was nearly no waiting, not in the waiting room, not in the hospital bed when I signaled for a nurse, not pre-op. Everything was organized so efficiently that it makes USA health care look "third world".

I chose Dr. Poomee for several reasons. His expertise was one. Also a big factor was that instead of having all the surgery done on the same day as day surgery in the USA and going home afterward, I could, for the same price, have the surgery on two different days in a real hospital with a 2 day hospital stay after each and 12 nights in a nice hotel on the river in Bangkok.

I was able to arrange everything by email sending photos to Dr. Poomee as a preliminary step then visiting the day prior to the first surgery for a consultation. If I'd wanted, or the Dr. determined it was not reasonable, everything could be cancelled at that consulation with no money lost. BTW, Dr. Poomee helped me to find the best way to send payment to Thailand so that I got a great exchange rate.

Prices for different cosmetic procedures are packaged with all necessary bits, surgeon's fee, operating room, hospital stay, meds, anesthesiologist, etc. So you know what it will cost up front. Unless there is some complication that requires extra meds, etc. you know the cost exactly before you even contact the Dr.

I also looked into using a medical travel service, but it wasn't necessary. Everything, including the hotel (I stayed at Aurum, The River Place), the hospital stay, the surgery, was easily and quickly done via email.

I expected a good experience but this was much better than I thought. Part of this is due to Ms. Poomee's assistance. She teases patients about being "mean" but in fact is looking out for their best interests. She was at the initial consultation, met me pre-op, held my hand in the operating room and came by frequently post-op to be sure I was behaving myself.. ie not talking, moving around too much and was getting the right things to eat, etc.

I can't say enough good things about this team. It is necessary to have a good surgeon and that might not be too difficult to find. However to find a team like this with care this good is very rare, at least in my and my family's experience.

I stayed in Bangkok for 9 days after my last surgery, returning twice to the office to have a check up and stitches and staples removed. After I returned home, I was a bit worried, so sent photos and questions to Dr. Poomee and had an answer within a few hours. That would have taken me days and an office visit here in the USA.

I would be happy to answer any questions concerning my experience.
