Hi, I just wanted to let everyone know some info on Thermage.. My P.S. just aquired a thermage laser. He is the most conservative doctor in the area and also the best.. He said he waited for them to work the bugs out before he would get one. he said the reason for all the problems in the past, was that everyone had the laser cranked up way to high. He said used properly at a lower setting. It is fine and will cause no problems. He said the immidiate results would not be as dramatic. but over 3 to 6 months you will notice a change. he recommends only 1 treatment and wait and see in a few months what your results are. i'm going to try it soon. i do truely belive this Dr would not do it if he did'nt belive it was safe. he treats some very wealthy and important people in our area and it would bve very bad for him to do any damage to anyones face..

Thermage is not a laser. It delivers radiofrequency waves -- the same as microwaves. People have had fat loss even with the new settings/protocol. Proceed at your own risk.

Do not do Thermage. Reputable docs that I know in Dallas are no longer offering it because of the high unpredictability and side effects...ie uneven fat loss in face.

Don't do it. I am serious.

good gawd, it just keeps getting more and more stupid. If the settings are not high enough to scar and damage the underlying tissues, it will do NOTHING. send money to the hurricane victims instead. Jeesh.

Even if some of the problems HAVE been eliminated, I am pretty sure that the likelihood for ANY results remains low. I have seen several articles on this.

I hate the "3-6 months" for results to show. I remember having Thermage and watching other post around the same time or after. We ALL waited for 3-6 months, and GUESS WHAT? I would say less than 5% of at least 50 patients whom reported to this board claimed they saw ANY results.....then the problems started to show up.

I have seen the "wait for 3-6 months" on other procedures, such as featherlift. I and many others later discovered this was simply a "stalling technique" by doctors who figure you will just "go away" after 3-6 months.

Thermage uses microwaves (radio-frequency waves) like for a microwave oven. Imagine sticking your face in a microwave oven with the power on. If you believe that will make you beautiful, then I have a bridge in New York to sell to you.

One more thing, just because wealthy women have certain procedures done, does not mean that it will be effective. Having lived for 16 years in Newport Beach, I can promise you that some women there have had *obvious* facelifts. Some were scary to look at. Others have had laser procedures or too serious of a peel, and their facial skin looks waxy or like a maniquin's "skin." So awful. One example is in the new "C" magazine (a mag for California). Ann Getty, the wife of Gordon Getty of San Francisco, is pictured and she looks scary, just masklike in her appearance. I should her pic to my husband and he couldn't look at her pic - she looks that scary. It would have been better for her not to have had anything done at all.

Please be careful. Money can't buy wisdom.

i had thermage done on my upper right arm 2 days ago and i can see the improvement already. my right upper arm is tighter than left arm and looks smaller. however, i will NOT have thermage done on my face. it hurt so much around my elbow and under arm during the treatment, i can't image how people can take the pain on their face.

Seeing "improvement" 2 days out is probably just due to swelling from the procedure. Unfortunately, once the swelling goes away, the improvement probably will too.

I agree with you 100%..case in point of a very wealthy person's surgery gone very wrong....Michael Jackson! Another one...Marie Osmond! Just because someone is wealthy, doesn't mean that they go to 'the best' doctor, or that the doctor is fully informed on all procedures. Some 'wealthy' people have an idea of beauty, and will doctor shop until they find someone that will perform the procedure they want...for example, a very wealthy friend of mine decided she wanted long large veneers for her teeth to "look like the movie stars". After 3 cosmetic dentists refused to do it the way she wanted, saying that it would not look good or remotely natural, and it was against their better judgment, she did find one to do it...and she looks like a cross between a horse and a rabbit...horrible! and yes, i'll reiterate...money can't buy wisdom, or taste!

If your doctor told you it was a thermage laser, and the laser was cranked up too high, I'd run...it's not a laser, and does not use any laser technology in any way shape or form...either he's confused or perhaps you are.

The Thermage/Thermacool reps give a great presentation...they explain how few procedures you have to do to pay for the machine and get your money back and start making a profit, show fabulous pictures, how little time it takes to perform the procedure...how an esthetician can do it, so it doesn't take away from the M.D.s time, etc... everything is positive positive positive! If you question a negative, they'll tell you what fabulous improvements have been made! They'll do anything to make a sale, because there is big money in commissions...If the doctor either A. Is gullible...B. Sees dollar signs....or C. Simply believes the hype, then you can't blame him for investing...if you don't go beyond the representatives, you'd think it was the greatest thing with the smallest risk ever! (I was present for a professional presentation yesterday-I'm in the medical field-and I am reporting this first hand).

Check out my before and after photos!!!!! Listed above. I HAD THE NEW SAFER PROCEDURE AT THE LOWER SETTINGS. In article interviews theramge said "we don't quite understand what's happening, but should that happen they can always use fillers." How can they fix the problem when they don't understand WHY?????? We'll just lower the settings a bit, I guess? Read a study RF waves behave UNPREDICTABLY around deep pockets of fat. If it has to be hot enough to damage tissue to contract it will damage the fat it those little RF waves go wild around fat. UNPREDICTABLE and bad science.

I had my procedure 5-1/2 months ago. One of the first damaged ones by the NEW SAFER procedure to come to this board. There is another gal on this board as well who got the NEW SAFER procedure. Now I'm not the only one. I imagine there will be more and more of us as time passes.

I think thermage just SOLD your doc and gave him THEIR data making him think it was safe. These people who sell these machines to the physicians are probably paid commission and I am sure have a canned answer for a doc's concerns and your doc was just gullable enough to buy it.

Don't do it. Of course, if you do I'll be more than happy to share all I've learned about fat grafts.

I am sorry you have to go through this. It has to be difficult but at least you're talking about it and helping others. Thanks.

Hi Keephope,
I would love you to share your findings on fat graphs......or if you have any info about Restylane or Sculptra. I have fat loss on my face from Thermage (2 years ago) and recently from Titan and Fraxel.
I feel like a fool to have had so many of these procedures done. I just found this forum, have been reading the comments for the past two days, and finally realizing why I haven't gotten the results I was hoping for.
Thanks for your info.

It doesn't matter what setting thermage is done at - it is a complete waste of money and a risk for further problems that will cost you even more money.

anne - ur experience w titan and fraxel would be useful for those who are considering these procedures. when did u have them, what do u think of them and do u know which seemed to cause the additional fat loss? do u think they are both capable of causing this problem?

Hi Lissa! I had Thermage almost 2 years ago and initially saw few if any changes in my skin. I was considering the "Threadlift" procedure but was talked into a "package" of two Fraxel treatments and one Titan. I had all these procedures done in May 2005. My dermatologist said it was VERY important to do them quickly to receive full benefits. As I said, I feel like a trusting fool to have had so many money wasting procedures done. I'm struggling with sagging skin (especially my jowl-line, neck and eye lids - I'm 47) and wanted a non-invasive technique so I wouldn't have much down time. The only benefits I have seen are the brown blotches aren't as noticable. The fat layer (especially in my cheeks) has become obviously thinner and because of the loss of a "cushy" layer, my skin has sagged even further to make my jowls and neck even more loose. PLEASE don't waste your money on any of these procedures!! The only thing I received was a thinner more "gaunt" face.
PS: I truly don't know which procedure caused most of the fat loss. Probably the Thermage caused the most damage. I hope the Fraxel and Titan don't exacerbate the problem. It's too soon to tell.
Good luck to all of you!

Please don't do the threadlift either. I've done Thermage and Threadlift. While threadlift gave good initial results, they faded quickly. I have read that this is typical for most patients, even with the newer "improved" threadlifts such as the contour lifts.

The threadlift does not last! As a result of this procedure my bank account and my face are depleted and neither looks any better! Please don't waste your money. Put those $$$$$ towards proven procedures.

Hi Lissa, I read your past message about getting New Fil for fat loss from an IPL treatment (I hope I have this correct). I am contemplating having some sort of filler.....either fat grafts- which I hear are very expensive because you have to have numerous procedures, Sculptra - which I hear can lump and grow out of hand, or even Restylane - usually used as a wrinkle filler.
I hope that your procedure went well.....are you happy with the results?
Thanks!
