| Hi. I'm new to this. If any of you are in the military or a spouse of a military personel, I would like to know if Tricare would cover for a tummy tuck? Under what conditions? I read the Tricare handbook and all, and it said that they won't cover it, but I know some people that has gotten plastic surgery with Tricare coverage. If anyone knows please respond. Thanks |

I was offered a referral to a military treatment facility that does them but after lots of thought I decided to just get a loan and pay for it. I'm close to Travis AFB, CA but there waiting list is 12-15 months and I don't want to wait. I know some family members get referrals for gastric bypass...good luck. If you need any further info email me at sctreat@verizon.net.

posted by: callynw | | Posted Tue, Jul 26 at 1:15 PM PDT | Hiya- I am active duty. I knew 2 active women who got their TTs done at Bethesda. I was stationed in Maryland and asked for a referral for one. They were booked up at Bethesda and Andrews and said I would have to go through a surgeon in town. I got my referral and Tricare paid for my appointment with the surgeon (2 appointments in fact) but when the time came for the actual work to be done, Tricare said they would not cover it. It went before the medical board and was disapproved. I was on the phone for 2 months telling them that it wasn't fair that this surgery was being completed in a military hospital but they would not pay for me to have mine done or at least put me on the waiting list. I was due to transfer to Europe so I finally decided I wasted too much time and energy and paid for it myself.
I was very displeased with Tricare but I think it is the Medical review board who I should be upset with. I think that I could have told them how I really felt about my body (extremely low self esteem and difficulty doing situps) and they would have probably approved it for psychological reasons but I didn't want a psych referral in my record! Double edged sword.
Anyway- Other than the normal numbness, ken doll, icky feeling I am happy I took the plunge. I am paying my credit card back slowly but I feel so much better without all that fat and skin and the stretch marks. I am at 5 months and I can wear a bikini and feel good. Just have some other areas to work on a bit. But I do feel more confident and better in clothes.
Blabbered on, sorry. Good Luck to you! I hope you beat the system. |
