Hi, I am a 31 year old mother of 3. I am considering having breast implants and a tummy tuck. I have looked over several web sites and have read up on the procedures. Can anyone tell me how I can go about finding a good doctor to do these procedures.

Hi, I do not know where you live, but I will tell you that i had a doctor work on me In the Dominican Republic. He is great. I will recommend him to anyone. The surgerys are generally cheaper in DR., and they can help you with a hotel. Many women go there and have a mini vacation at the same time. You will need someone to go with you, becasue you will need help. But if this is something that yoou ca n afford go for ti. My TT only cost $2000.OO AND IT INCLUDED A LIPO.

I went to the DR for lipo after having two okay (but expensive) ops here in NYC. My sister went after me, after she saw how great I looked. She had breast reduction done and lipo. I stayed at an all-inclusive resort and had a blast and still saved thousands.

The doctor I went to is Dr. Nelson Rosario Sosas. His cell number is 809-729-4654. I have to look up his two office numbers (he has an office in the capital and another office) and e-mail address. If you are interested e-mail me. I can also contact him for you. It will help both of us get better prices.
Tell him MayLeen from NY referred you.

There are soo many inquiries into the Dominican Republic with lots of interested parties. I think we should all get together and make a group trip (save in hotel). I, of course, would always recommend Dr. Nelson Rosario who has already treated me and my sister, so I will return to him, but everyone can make their own informed decision, but it would be nice to all go together.

Who reccomended you?
What type of body did you have and what are the results now?
Do you have any scars?

Just as a very basic initial search option, you can go to surgery.org and use the doctor search feature (by city/state that you're in) there or plasticsurgery.org and use the doctor search feature. The doctors on both of these sites are all board certified (by ABPS) and are members of these societies. However, this does not mean that other doctors are not very competent and skillful in performing these procedures.

You should meet with a few doctors and you should talk to patients as well.

We are in the midst of creating a doctor search resource on Make Me Heal, which will have many tools and tips for how to go through this key step of the process. We'll let everyone know about this via email when we have news about this. Also, the handbook that we freely provide when you register has some good tips for you in your doctor search:

Hi Jazzy
That's my Doctor! He was wonderful. Some say he is expensive, but he has such a great rep....and his work is phenominal! I had lipo and tt done by him July 11th.I look like a million dollars girl! I met a woman in his clinic that had a tt done by another surgeon...and was going to Cabral to fix it. He is 100% excellent! Go for it. Also...it helps if you can stay with someone over there to care for you for a few days. I stayed with his consultant Helen Vasquez. She was his nurse for years, and her mom will care for you in her home. Any questions just ask me

Hi Deshawn
The surgery(Full TT) for me was 3800.It included lipo almost everywhere, the clinic stay, the girdle and the meds given while at the clinic. I stayed with His nurse Ms. Vasquez. The consult was done here. He comes to NYC,Brooklyn, Queens, Boston, Conneticut, and those are only the ones I know of! he visits two or three times a year so his prospective patients don't have to travel twice.I would give you his info, but they keep erasing names and numbers from this site.Where in NY are you?

Doctor recommendations on message boards
posted by: forumsadministrator
Click to reply to this messagePosted Wed, Oct 15 at 11:27 AM PDT
Hi all,

You may wonder why certain doctor names and contact information in the posts have been removed. While we do not generally mind people mentioning doctors they recommend on the message boards, we have to ensure that someone who is posting is not really trying to "advertise" the services of a doctor or any other type of company/service. The doctors on this thread have been excessively promoted by the users and in each instance the poster gave several telephone numbers and even the assistant's telephone number and a place to stay. When we see this kind of pattern, we begin questioning the integrity of the post. To protect the community of members, we have taken out these names and numbers and would like to make sure that you exercise your best judgment when reading posts about doctors. In most cases, the poster is legitimate but in some cases the person is not really who they are portraying themselves to be. We are not saying that the users here are not legitimate, but when a user excessively promotes a doctor and speaks about them in every post and gives several contact numbers, this raises a serious red flag.

As a result, for everyone participating in the boards, please use your utmost judgment when reading any post by someone who is raving about a doctor as this person may be working with a doctor or have some ulterior motive that is not really objective and impartial. We believe you should consider opinions of patients, as they are very valuable. Unfortunately, not everyone who presents themselves as a patient is really one.

Our policies are very clear about promoting services or products and how they will be removed or filtered out.

We are doing our best at all times to maintain integrity in the message boards and to protect you.

Use your judgment.

in all fairness to the Administrator, I understand the concern and actually makes me feel happy to feel that if "advertisers" get filtered out, I will get honest, unbiased opinions from real patients. But when I was looking for a doctor, I depended on looking up references from boards. if I didn't have the names or numbers, I would not have known where to go. I personally do not work for a doctor and have a very busy career of my own, but I think it's unfair to block out our doctor. I am very greatful to him and would like others to know, the same way I was recommended to him when I was looking. If someone had taken his name out, I would have never met him. It makes me wonder if the names were from doctors in the USA, would they have been blanked out. It makes more sense for me to recommend the two doctors who saw me in NY, since they are closer, but I cannot sincerely do that. I searched for other doctors because I was not happy. And some people do not want to go to the Dominican Republic or abroad. Some people prefer to stay here, I'm sure they will ignore our posting. But for those who do make the choice to go abroad, it's only fair to have unbiased references. I thought the more names and numbers got posted, the better it would be as it's not just directing people to once source, but rather, to various opinions of the different people who are posting. I was in another forum, and when I omitted to put the information of my doctor, it seemed as if it was nefarious and I was asked to post the info "for credibility's sake." so go figure. I had the opportunity of noting the other two doctors' name I saw posted and will keep them handy for future reference. Although I posted the surgeon that I had the benefit of meeting, I also benefitted from the postings of others. Logically if we're speaking about doctors who are treating us, it will not be of any help for those researching boards like this for information, if they don't have access to that information... so I was told on the other forum I visited (as I am searching for answers to my questions for my future op). Thank You

In addition to my last comments, after another careful reading of a previous posting, it's evident why you have cleared "our" recommendations. You are in the process of creating a doctor resource tool, and presumably this will be after doctors contact you and presumably pay a fee to be listed in your resource "search". Now if that's not biased, what is? Wouldn't that be called "Advertisers'".

So it would not behoove you to have us posting names of other doctors, whom we have personal experience with and are not biased, if they are not part of "YOUR RESOURCE TOOL SEARCH ENGINE". Although this would make absolute business sense from your part, that alone would have sufficed.

Interestingly enough, I got your site by seeing a posting you left on another message board which included your site information... I guess you should not be recommending yourself elsewhere, as you don't want us to make recommendations here.

Dear MayC,

This doctor resource you mention is absolutely not in conflict with anyone posting/discussing a doctor. If you look at the different procedure message boards we have, there are thousands of doctors being mentioned and we never have taken their names down because the posts appeared legitimate. We agree - and I stated this in my last message - that patient feedback and recommendations is an important resource to have and we condone an open forum. In fact, much of the research we gather is from patients themselves. For this reason, we generally do not mind discussing any doctor - as long as you are truly speaking from experience and that it is not some promotion of the doctor by way of being a representative for the doctor. We have seen this kind of activity several times on our boards and addressed the matter accordingly. However, in your particular case, we let you talk about your doctor and left the messages discussing the doctor which started appearing in early October. These posts were left intact for weeks and we had no conern. But unlike other patients, your posts always mentioned the doctor and 3 phone numbers in each instance. Additionally, other people suddenly appeared - within minutes of you posting - who also said they had this doctor. This seemed like an odd coincidence. Regardless, we let the activity go on and assumed it is a coincidence. Normally, patients speak of a doctor and don't feel the need to give every type of contact information (including a cell phone of the doctor which most patients do not have access to) as you have done. Patients who post also don't mention their doctor in every single post they did, as you have done in many cases. We are only interested in a community where people represent themselves as they are and are not here for ulterior motives. We don't police our boards, as generally everyone participating upholds the policies and does not come here pushing things for the sake of personal gain. As we have substantial experience with posters who are not legitimate, the activity on this board raised a red flag.

If you are only a patient, then we are sorry and you can feel free to talk about your experience and recovery and provide tips to others. Our doctor resource, which does not operate in the way you even assume, has nothing to do with our decision. Additionally, the fact that the doctors discussed here are not in the US also has no bearing on our decision. Please continue to discuss the merits of doctors in other countries, as this is a very interesting discussion. If you wish, you can go to your preferences and choose to make your email visible so posters who are interested in your doctor can email you privately.

For your information, however, the message board etiquette for most patients is to provide contact information privately and not to post it on our board. Names are freely discussed, but people generally email one another with the contact information. At any rate, a simple search engine query on google can find you a physician within seconds. You are one of the few posters of the thousands and thousands we've had who has provided multiple telephone numbers for a doctor, including a cell phone.

At any rate, we wish for this off-topic discussion to stop now that we have cleared things and hopefully appeased everyone. We have our policies and they simply need to be respected - as they are also the standard on other message boards. We provide tips and help to people out of our sheer interest in helping, so we would not limit information on doctors that can be freely provided. If you are indeed not a representative of the doctor, we would like you to continue to participate and provide valuable information to other patients and that we can move forward and continue helping one another. That is the purpose of our forums. People discuss doctors all the time, but they do not try to speak of their doctor and give numbers at every turn to the point that it is spam. That is where it starts seeming like promotion.

If you wish to respond, please only send e-mail to forums@makemeheal.com, as the boards are for discussions on cosmetic procedures and this off-topic discussion is distracting.

Thank you for being a part of Make Me Heal.

Regards,

The Make Me Heal Team

Thank you for your explanation. I will continue to be a part of your forum, as I have found it very helpful to me. Although some of your facts are wrong (confusing me with someone else, as I only posted one phone number only after seeing other numbers posted by others, and no one else has said they also went to my doctor)... I do want to state that I do not represent, nor work, nor am I affiliated with any doctor. I have a profession away from the medical field and only wish to exchange information to benefit me and others as well.

I have replied to you personally at the e-mail address indicated.

Also for the other readers (so as to not leave any wrong impression) The standard of practice in Santo Domingo is for physicians to give you their cell number (although not the norm here). It's just a different culture and should not be viewed, nor characterized, as though there is some hidden meaning behind that. I was given the cellular number of every physician I contacted during my research before my operation on July 5, 2003. Production of copies of my travel tickets as well as my hotel invoices and pictures can be posted if need be, as I do not like the implication that I am a representative of any doctor.

MayC I am very glad that you had the time to respond to the forun administrators. I was also very ofended by their email concerning the posting of my Dr.'s info. I, like you was looking for inf. before I had my TT done, and after, just to know if everything was going as it should. I like you, also feel that becasue we come from a different culture, did not think we were doing something wrong. I don't work for any Dr. in fact I was very happy when I saw that everyone was starting to share their Dr.'s inf., because since we live in the USA it is harder for us to find good inf about Dr. abroad. Also it seems that a great amount of women are going to Dominican Republic for surgeries, I know that we have great surgents there. My thinking was that the better informed you are the better informed you will be when choosing a Dr. I like you can also provide information about my trip pic post surgery and ticket information. I truly think that the forum administrators should pay more attentions to the needs of those of us who choose to go abrad for procedure, since we have no other ways to comunicate the information to others outthere. Not because I want to make an posting for a doc.but because other women should know that Domincan Dr. for the most part are great and much cheaper. It can be an alternative for many of serching for good Dr. but with limited cash. All right... trying to change the subject...

I just ordered some of the support bras from the MakeMeHeal Store (to have extra ones) just scheduled for November. Is there any particular bra that I should have bought for a BA? Has anyone had expereince?

Also, I bought that Arnica homeopathic stuff to begin taking before the op? Does anyone know how soon I should begin taking it before the operation?
And, I ordered that Svrectin cream (however it's spelled), so if no one has used it before, I will keep you posted, I plan to use it on stretch marks. Question: Is that also good to put on the scars after the surgery,, such as the ones in the breast? Does any one know

I have found the best dr. He is wonderful. I dont know where you live and if you willing to travel, but he is located in Suffolk, VA his name is Dr. J Craig Merrell. His practice is Plastic Surgeon Assoc of Tidewater. 1 year and three month ago I was in search of a Dr. to do a breast Augmentation. I did a lot of research and came in contact with him. His resume was online and I have never seen such an outstanding resume. I'm not sure if you know what Operation Smile is. But it is an organization where Dr's donate alot of their time to under-priveldeged people and children who have terrible defects. Well he is the Director of all those dr's. He is absolutley Wonderful
