Lubricant Eye Drops & Ointments

Lubricant eye drops and ointments help relieve common symptoms after an eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), such as dry eyes, watery eyes, eye irritation, itching, and redness. Lubricant eye drops and ointments help hydrate the eyes and moisturize the eyeball, as well as ease the irritation, burning, and dusty sensations that you can experience in your eyes due to such symptoms.

Among the brands of lubricant eye drops that are offered in the Eyelid Surgery Store include Boiron Optique Eye Drops, a preservative-free lubricant eye drops brand that provides relief from eye irritation, soothes red, dry, itchy, burning, or tired eyes, and reduces pain due to eyestrain and fatigue.

In addition to using eye drops , lubricant ointments are frequently used together with lubricant eye drops (or instead of eye drops) to treat dry eyes, watery eyes, eye irritation, itching, and redness that occur due to eyelid surgery. Because lubrication ointments are thicker, they are generally applied in the evening to avoid being bothered by blurry vision during the day. It is common for eyelid surgery patients to use lubricant eye drops during the day and lubricant ointment when going to sleep as the ointment stays better inside the eye. Among the brands of lubricant eye ointments that are offered in the Eyelid Surgery Store include Allergan Refresh PM. Allergan Refresh PM contains a preservative-free formula that provides moisturizing relief for dry, irritated eyes and is ideal for use at bedtime.

Following an eyelid surgery, lubricant eye drops and ointment are typically taken for several days to several weeks, as long as the eye symptoms remain. Lubricant eye drops and ointment can be applied several times a day, up to 4-5 times a day. It is recommended to consult a doctor if the symptoms persist for more than 1 month. After applying lubricant eye drops in your eyes, close your eye gently to allow the medication to absorb for 1-2 minutes. If you use different eye medications during your recovery (i.e. antibiotic drops and ointments, steroid drops, etc.), it is recommended that you wait a few minutes between application of each medication to ensure that the eye has time to absorb each type of medication. If you are taking a combination of lubricant eye drops and lubricant eye ointments, it is better to use the drops a few minutes before the ointment. This helps the eye drop penetrate the eye without hindrance from a thick layer of ointment.
