Cybill Shepherd Faces Botox Fear

Posted on July 22nd, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Lisa Stern

58-year old actress Cybill Shepherd hasn’t had Botox yet. But despite her plastic surgery fears, In Your Face blog is reporting that the blonde is about to take the next step.

Cybill Shepherd, Plastic Surgery

Cybill Shepherd is best known for her television roles on Moonlighting and Cybill, but she rose to stardom playing a sex kitten in the film The Last Picture Show.

At 58, many women have moved beyond dermal injections like Botox to having much more invasive plastic surgery. Cybill says she hasn’t had any Botox yet, not out of fear of needles, like actress Eva Longoria has said (See Make Me Heal’s story on Eva Longoria), but because she fears the results.

When queried about trying to look as young as possible, Cybill tells writer Patricia Sheridan of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

“It’s a big issue for me because I feel a responsibility that I should do something. I have fear of doing it. I will do things. I will be doing things. I haven’t yet. I just cringe at the thought of needles going in my face. I’m not afraid of shots, having almost died of pneumonia when I was 5 and again when I was 7. I had to get shots every day. I’m just afraid of what might happen to my face [laughs]. I have fear of what it’s going to look like afterward.”

Cybill has always been beautiful and it’s a nice change to hear a Hollywood heroine make an honest statement about Botox, rather than deny a need for it like many actresses have recently.

Jeremy Piven Hides Hair Loss With Toupee

Posted on July 21st, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Jet H. Ross

As Entourage fans are eagerly awaiting Ari Gold’s return to premium prime time, Make Me Heal is eager to see what new toupees Jeremy Piven wears. Jeremy is notorious for wearing toupees in lieu of receiving plastic surgery for hair restoration.

Jeremy Piven, Hair Loss

Paparazzi captured very soon to be 43-year old Jeremy’s wig getting prepped for shooting a scene on the upcoming season of Entourage, when it returns this fall. Over the years, Jeremy has worn a variety of hairpieces to mask his rapidly receding hairline, even appearing au naturel from time to time, letting the world in on his secret.

Jeremy Piven, Hair Restoration

Unlike Brendan Fraser, Jeremy hasn’t yet turned to hairplugs, instead using hairpieces of varying shape to mask his baldness (See Make Me Heal’s story on Brendan Fraser’s hair loss).

Hair restoration exert Dr. Alan Bauman warns that relying on tape and glue to attach hairpieces can actually accelerate hair loss.

Jeremy Piven, Toupee

Jeremy’s method of dealing with hair loss is similar to the various hairpieces that John Travolta has worn over the years (See Make Me Heal’s story on John Travolta’s hairpieces).

Jeremy’s hair loss pattern starts at his forehead and recedes all the way to the middle of his head.

Some of his hairpieces are more successful than others and even if he decided to forgo the rugs altogether, we’d still watch his heinous shenanigans with the rest of the Entourage boys.

Did Sarah Jessica Parker Remove Mole With Plastic Surgery?

Posted on July 21st, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Sam Stets

When Make Me Heal saw the pictures of Sarah Jessica Parker without the mole on her chin that is part of her signature appearance, we wondered if she had decided to cover it up or if she had had it removed like other celebrities with famous moles.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Mole removal

43-year old Sarah Jessica recently appeared without the mole on her chin that has been with for most of her career. Although the style icon occasionally uses make-up to cover up the mole, it is usually more in evidence than it was in the recent photos. With rates of skin cancer on the rise, it would be understandable if Sarah Jessica decided to have the mole removed for health reasons, rather than aesthetics.

When questioned about the mole’s disappearance, Sarah Jessica reportedly responded, ‘Nothing has been removed.’ Although later a source close to the star confirmed that she had the mole removed in the past two weeks, according to the Daily Mail. Two weeks would be enough time for enough healing to occur that the residual scar could be easily covered with make-up.

However, if the mole was removed for cosmetic purposes, it may not have been the Sex & the City star’s first encounter with plastic surgery (See Make Me Heal’s story on Sarah Jessica Parker’s nose job).

When celebrities remove moles, the world often notices, for better or worse.

Enrique Iglesias, Mole Removal

Crooner Enrique Iglesias drew a lot of attention when the 33-year old had the mole that was prominently displayed on his cheek removed. The mole was part of his trademark look until its removal for rumored aesthetic purposes in 2003.

Ewan MacGregor, Mole Removal

Scottish actor, 37-year old Ewan MacGregor had a mole removed after spending time in the African sun. Unlike Enrique, and possibly SJP, Ewan had his moles checked out before having some of them removed. He explains, “I just went to have them checked. You have to be careful with moles if you’re pale-skinned and you spend time in the sun. So I went to see a specialist who thought they were better to be removed and indeed he was correct.”

Cindy Crawford, Plastic Surgery

What is possibly the most famous mole in the world, still prominently resides on Cindy Crawford’s upper lip. At 42, the former supermodel has admitted to having Botox injections, collagen and using skin creams to take care of her appearance. But the trademark mole that launched her career remains.

When it comes to moles and potential melanoma, it is better to be safe than sorry and get them removed, as in Ewan’s case. But when your moles don’t appear to be irregular and they helped your career, it doesn’t seem necessary to have them taken off either.

Leg Lengthening Plastic Surgery

Posted on July 21st, 2008 in Weird, Fun, Strange & Tragic Plastic Surgery by Erica Hurtz

In a world where height is greatly valued, some people are willing to undergo brutal, greatly painful and enormously expensive leg lengthening plastic surgery to gain an extra couple of inches.

Leg Lengthening, Plastic Surgery

Leg lengthening is often done in other countries, with regulations that are different from those in the United States. The cost is often upwards of $100,000 and typically patients gain only 2-4 inches. To cut costs, and spend only $10,000, patients travel to all kinds of foreign countries and return with more problems than just being on the small side.

On his blog, Dr. Anthony Youn describes the exceedingly painful procedure, “This is a surgery where the bones of the legs are sawed in half and then gradually allowed to spread apart as new bone grows between the two broken halves. It’s called the Ilizarov technique, and has been used for healing fractures for years. It’s only recently making news as a technique for making a person taller.”

He also warns, “Unfortunately, bone lengthening is a tedious process which can result in a major complication like osteomyelitis (infection of the bone).”

Recovery time is significantly longer than other cosmetic procedures at 10 weeks, rather than 10 days. The surgery carries great risks, including deformity and infection. Still there are an estimated 4,000 men in the world that have elected to undergo the procedure.

Helen Mirren’s Bikini Body Sparks Plastic Surgery Rumors

Posted on July 18th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Carrie Zender

Helen Mirren, Bikini, Plastic SurgeryHollywood has always been a place for gorgeous faces, and tight bodies. The real trick is to make them last as long as possible. Recent photographs of Helen Mirren in a bikini have brought about some questions as to how the 63-year old can still look so hot in a bikini.

For a woman of any age, Helen Mirren is in amazing shape as both her upper body and lower body are athletic without any sagging or fat. It seems that she has found how to be confident with her body while not being too compulsive and going overboard on the plastic surgery. While there have been plastic surgery rumors (See Make Me Heal’s story on Helen Mirren’s possible plastic surgery) surrounding Mirren, including a facelift and eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), it seems quite evident from her bikini picturs that she must overhauled some of her body parts as well.

One report indicates that her breast size has actually increased over the years, which means she is indeed human and has gained a little weight as she has aged. Her waist has stayed the same size and now these new revealing bikini shots show that her stomach is very flat for a 63-year old. While not having any children has helped (as pregnancy loosens the skin on the stomach and breast-feeding accelerates breast sagging), she may have had a little liposuction or cellulite treatments, like VelaShape, at the very least to keep her body tight. As her breasts are unusually perky for someone her age, she has likely gotten a breast lift to perk up her breasts, which are large enough that a bikini top may not be able to entirely support them. As we age and our metabolism slows down and muscle mass diminishes, the ability to keep our bodies in top shape with exercise and diet alone becomes harder and harder, so it is not a stretch of the imagination to believe that Helen might have gotten a little help from the knife.Helen Mirren, Breast Lift

Helen Mirren, Breast Augmentation

Regardless of what plastic surgery Helen Mirren has had, she truly looks remarkable and shows how great we can look if we take care of our bodies.

Jordan Breast Implants Update

Posted on July 18th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Lisa Stern

Last year, Make Me Heal reported on British glamour model Jordan’s decision to undergo more plastic surgery to decrease the size of her breast implants. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Jordan’s New Plastic Surgery).

Katie Price, Jordan, Breast Implants

Last year, Jordan was quoted as saying, “[My breasts] have already gone saggy after three children so I want them perking up and made smaller. They’ll still be big but not as big and I’m going to go for the fake-looking American-style boob job. I really love that.”

She was more recently quoted as being disappointed with her reduction surgery, saying she was hoping to go from a 32G to a 32C, but after the operation they were only reduced to 32F:

“When I saw my boobs, I was disappointed because they looked big and I wanted them to be a lot smaller. I’m really disappointed. In fact I’m going back to the States to get them re-done. They hang too low when I”m standing up.”

Jordan, Katie Price, Plastic Surgery

On a recent wild night of partying, Jordan was photographed with a rather larger scar resulting from her surgeries, including having them reduced and lifted.

In the past, Jordan has also admitting to wanting have a lip augmentation and a vaginal rejuvenation for her husband, Peter Andre.

“And I’m going to get my mouth done too,” says Jordan.

“I’m going to have my fanny (vagina) done, too. I want to be a virgin again. That’ll be a treat for Pete.”

It may have been a treat for Pete, but it was too much information for the rest of the world. Kind of like showing off the location of her surgery scar; it takes away some of the mystery.

Cindy McCain Is For Plastic Surgery

Posted on July 18th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Lisa Stern

No matter which candidate you plan to vote for in the next presidential election, one thing is certain, Senator John McCain’s wife, Cindy McCain is for plastic surgery.

At first, Make Me Heal thought that style guru Tim Gunn had it right when he was reportedly quoted as saying, “Cindy McCain looks like someone has twisted her pony tail into a knot and tried to give her a face lift.” Then we thought, maybe it’s not the uptight hairdo, maybe she really has had a facelift.

At 54, McCain is in the median age range of being a candidate for a facelift. A facelift is designed to tighten not only the sagging appearance of the face, but of the neck and jowls as well. McCain’s face is tight, the neck is remarkably taut, and her jaw is free of jowling. This may be explained by a mini-facelift, or it could just be that Cindy McCain is aging well. We are more inclined to think that McCain’s pulled look is at the very least the result of too many dermal injectables and potential laser treatments like Fraxel, Thermage, and Active Fx.

Cindy McCain, Plastic Surgery

As many critics and bloggers like superplasticfantastic have noted, McCain’s forehead never seems to move, the likely result of Botox injections, which relax the muscles to keep them from creasing. McCain’s cheeks are also very full and smooth, which could be the result of an injectable filler like Juvederm.

As her eyes crinkle and she has some creping and sagging skin under her eyes, it doesn’t look like McCain has had any work done there. However, her upper lids and brows are very arched looking, which could be the result of an upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). Because there are lines around McCain’s eyes, Make Me Heal is inclined to think that the preternatural arch is the result of an upper eyelid surgery, which hasn’t been enhanced by Botox—yet.

Cindy McCain, John, Face Lift

Also, in comparison to the skin on the back of her hands (always a dead giveaway of a person’s real age), McCain’s facial skin is much smoother and spot free. This smooth skin is most likely the result of chemical peels or laser skin resurfacing treatments like Fraxel, Active Fx, or Thermage, which help get rid of fine lines and pigmentation caused by sun damage and aging.

Now, if only Cindy McCain could share her plastic surgeon with her husband to remove some of the unsightly facial imperfections on the left side of face (possibly due to melanoma he had removed) that may just be the secret weapon he needs to win the elections.

Man Gets Plastic Surgery Not To Lose Wife, Then Dies

Posted on July 17th, 2008 in Weird, Fun, Strange & Tragic Plastic Surgery by Carrie Zender

An Irishman, convinced he was so fat and ugly that his decade younger wife would leave him, died while undergoing elective cosmetic surgery overseas.

Pierre Chrisitian LawlorPierre Christian Lawlor (33), of Belarmine Place, Stepaside, Dublin, married Venezulean Andrea Galeano, who was 23 at the time of her husband’s death, traveled to Colombia to have plastic surgery because he feared his wife would leave him for one of his friends, as had happened to his parents.

The couple met Online in 2006 and have a baby together.

Lawlor died after having paid €3,500 to have liposuction and numerous nips and tucks to his face and neck during a trip to Bogota. His wife testified that she had told him not to have the surgery and also that she believed him to have been under the influence of cocaine and alcohol the day prior to the surgery.

Lawlor died of cardiac arrest shortly after the lengthy surgery was performed and his drug usage is being explored to see if it contributed to his demise.

Lawlor reportedly explored the Internet for discount rates on plastic surgery before settling upon the Colombian clinic.

Ellen Barkin’s Plastic Surgery

Posted on July 17th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Jet H. Ross

Ellen Barkin is an unconventionally pretty actress who often portrays sexy, rough around the edges characters. At 54, she is certainly at a stage in her life and career when many women have had plastic surgery to maintain their looks. However, Make Me Heal thinks that Ellen is aging with minimal cosmetic surgery.

Ellen Barkin, Plastic Surgery

As Make Me Heal has previously reported, Ellen is against invasive plastic surgery, saying,

“I think it’s dangerous. Women who have had major surgery are sending out the signal saying, ‘I’m not happy with where I am, so I want to be somewhere else - I want to be like I was at 30,” says Barkin to First Magazine.

The movie star does not plan on having cosmetic surgery and she has some of her own friends as living proof that it does not make one look better – because her friends’ nip, tucks, and lifts actually look terrible.

“I think face lifts make you look older not younger,” says Barkin.

“You look at them and think either they look crazy or awful.”

“For some of them, I will say, ‘Oh, wow! That looks like a beautiful woman (but) it just doesn’t look like the same beautiful woman.”

While dead set against having cosmetic surgery procedures, Barkin is all for having non-invasive procedures, with the exception of Botox which is against. Barkin supports people who may want to have non-invasive treatments, as Barkin herself has admitted to regularly getting the collagen boosting treatments Thermage and Fraxel.

“I don’t have problems with fillers and non-invasive procedures,” she added. “I think a little bit of everything is OK, I’m fine with it all except Botox.”

“The whole Botox craze, what it says to me is ‘I am desperately unhappy with where I am in my life’s journey, I don’t like it, I want to disguise it, I want to erase it,’” Barkin tells More Magazine. “Like, ‘I’m not comfortable being 30, 40, 50, 60.’ And I have issues with that.”

Speaking about celebrity plastic surgery, Ellen Barkin is predictably against this major Hollywood trend. Barkin will not watch movies with actors who are overdone.

“I don’t want to see someone I’ve watched in movies for 20 years and not know who they are, with their eyebrows somewhere in the middle of their hairline.”

“What I’m not fine with is celebrities the same age as me whose bodies are buff and sculpted - they don’t look natural any more. If I see someone on screen whose face can’t move to express emotion, then I’m no longer interested in watching them act.”

Ellen looks like she is telling the truth, as although her skin is firm, it is not completely unflawed. She doesn’t appear to be trying to look younger than her age, just good for 54 years. (See Make Me Heal’s previous story on Ellen Barkin’s mixed feelings about plastic surgery).

Dr. Anthony Youn tells msnbc.com, “In addition her wrinkles are not deep, signifying possible collagen injections or Restylane injections. She has denied having Botox however, and does not appear to have had a facelift or eyelid surgery.”

It is not for us to understand where Ellen draws the line at having cosmetic surgery. But we do think she is doing a great job aging and look forward to seeing the Ocean’s Thirteen actress again on the big screen next year.
