Carrot Top: Plastic Surgery Disaster In The Making

Posted on July 14th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male/Men's Plastic Surgery by Jet H. Ross

Carrot Top is frequently cited as a top ten contender for most awful plastic surgery disasters, along with familiar faces like Michael Jackson, Jocelyn Wildenstein, and Kenny Rogers. The curly-haired comedian has become better known for his over-the-top appearance than he has for his comedy. Make Me Heal takes a look at this funnyman’s funny look.

Although comedians often rely on making funny faces, Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson has had so much Botox that it looks like his face froze in an awkward position, the way your mother warned you it might as a child. Not only that, but his eyebrows are even more arched than Botox fan Nicole Kidman’s (See Make Me Heal’s story on Nicole Kidman’s Botox)

Carrot Top, Plastic Surgery

On his blog, Plastic Surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn notes, “He’s undergone quite a few changes over the years, not the least of which is an excessively arched brow possibly due to a combination of Botox and a Browlift.”

Make Me Heal noticed that for a 43-year old, Carrot Top’s skin is also unusually smooth, probably due to laser treatments, like Fraxel and chemical peels, which may also explain why is face is less freckled looking than the rest of his bizarrely toned body.

Dr. Youn also says, “His face looks extremely smooth as well, and may be the result of laser treatments or chemical peels.”

Carrot Top, Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia tells Make Me Heal, “Carrot Top has probably had facial peeling and/or skin care as the freckles are decreased relative to those seen on the rest of his body.”

In addition to his odd facial appearance, including what look like drawn-on eyebrows, Carrot Top looks almost feminine and soft (an effect that is furthered by heavy eyeliner), which can be a side effect of steroids, which he almost certainly uses to achieve his hard and toned body.

If Carrot Top wanted to be made of fun rather than make the fun with witty remarks, then his plastic surgery goal was certainly achieved, although Make Me Heal thinks that his time would have been better spent coming up with new material than under the knife.

Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay Denies Botox Use

Posted on July 1st, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male/Men's Plastic Surgery by Carrie Zender

British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is best known stateside for his craggy and cranky appearance on his reality cooking show, Hell’s Kitchen. But some viewers think the tough guy has gone soft. Make Me Heal investigates

Gordon Ramsey, Botox

Botox is a dermal injectable that relaxes muscles, to give the face a softer, smoother appearance. Usually Ramsay’s face is a collection of scowls, giving him more wrinkles than his 41 years warrant. But recently, his look has been less tense and more relaxed, leading many to speculate that there may have been some truth behind Ramsay’s quip about Botox, ““I’ve just come back from LA – do you think the Botox has worked?”

Ramsay wouldn’t be the first British import that stars as a reality show angry man. Simon Cowell, the harsh judge on American Idol is also a notorious Botox user. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Simon Cowell’s Botoxification).

John Schneider Gets Liposuction On Tummy

Posted on October 22nd, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male/Men's Plastic Surgery by Jet H. Ross

John Schneider, Liposuction, Plastic SurgeryJohn Schneider, a guest star on Nip/Tuck and the star of the wildly popular 1980’s show “Dukes of Hazzard”, has apparently done a bit of tucking in his real life.

The 47-year old star who is also a lead star in the TV show “Smallville” revealed that he had a liposuction on his stomach after getting frustrated with his inability to lose the flab on his stomach with sit-ups.

“I went the liposuction route a couple years ago,” Schneider told Extra. “I did 1000 sit-ups and nothing was happening.”

Schneider joins a growing number of men who are going under the knife, with liposuction being the most popular procedure done on men, followed by rhinoplasty (nose job), eyelid surgery, gynecomastia (male breast reduction), and facelift.

Liposuction procedures have been perfected to the point that the downtime is quite minimal, although discomfort can occur.

“The result was great! It hurt like hell!,” admitted Schneider.

It is refreshing to see a male celebrity fess up to having plastic surgery, as normally men are quite secretive about having cosmetic enhancement for fear that it would make them look “unmanly” and take away from their masculine image. Schneider is to be commended for speaking openly talk about how empowering plastic surgery can be and showing that there is nothing wrong with a man going under the knife.

American Idol’s Simon Cowell Will Never Have Plastic Surgery

Posted on June 10th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male/Men's Plastic Surgery by Sam Stets

Simon Cowell, Plastic Surgery, Man BoobsAmerican Idol judge Simon Cowell has been aging gracefully until now and is never going to have plastic surgery when he gets older. The 47 year old Cowell believes that cosmetic surgery looks unattractive on men.”I wouldn’t have plastic surgery, it looks ridiculous on guys,” said Cowell.

Simon Cowell says that his youth regimen consists of doing exercises at home and in his office. “I’d do 100 press-ups before I get in the bath in the morning, then at work after a meeting, I’ll shut the door and do more.”

Cowell also dismissed rumors that he uses hair color to hide gray hairs. “I’d never dye my hair either. Everyone thinks I do, but I never have”, says Cowell.

It is admirable that Simon Cowell is comfortable in his skin and is looking forward to aging without any cosmetic intervention. Looking at Cowell closely, his face looks youthful, except for the crows feet from the sides of his eyes and slight under eye bags. Additionally, Simon’s forehead is astonishingly free of any wrinkles or lines, suggesting that he may condone and use non-invasive cosmetic treatments such as Botox or Restylane injections.

Simon Cowell, Man Boobs, GynecomastiaOn the other hand, Simon has a normal aging man’s belly and man boobs which he cannot get rid of with just exercise as only going under the knife and having liposuction or male breast reduction can eliminate the breasts. Simon Cowell is apparently self-conscious about his man boobs and was recently embarrassed when a young girl did an artistic portrait of Simon Cowell with a pair of boobs. Cowell said, “What are those? What are those? Are you saying I have those? Are you? I’m not very happy.”

In medical circles, man boobs are a medical condition known as gynecomastia, which is the development of abnormally large mammary glands in males. This condition is generally the result of a hormonal imbalance, or the side effect of certain medications, obesity, and old age. For many men, the combination of natural weight gain and the aging process will lead them to develop gynecomastia at some point in their lives as in the case of Simon Cowell, Harrison Ford, and John Travolta. While gynecomastia is not a serious physical threat to health, it can lead to increased self consciousness for the person.

Is Bruce Willis Getting Plastic Surgery Advice From Demi Moore?

Posted on June 8th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male/Men's Plastic Surgery by Lisa Stern

Bruce Willis, Plastic SurgeryBruce Willis is adored by fans for being the ultimate rugged real man, someone who ages gracefully. So it goes without saying that the words Bruce Willis and plastic surgery do not typically coincide in the same sentence unless his ex-wife and cosmetic surgery proponent Demi Moore is being mentioned. But this may be a thing of the past, as Bruce Willis’ appearance at the MTV Film Awards this past Sunday changed everything (see video below).

Looking relaxed and casual in a Hawaiian shirt, the 52-year old star of the upcoming summer blockbuster “Live Free or Die Hard” looked ten years younger than other fifty something colleagues with radiant skin, a forehead with no deep lines or wrinkles that would be otherwise typical of his age, no naso-labial folds (laugh lines that emanate from the corners of the mouth to the nose), no glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows and above the nose), and very faint crows’ feet around his eyes. Bruce also has no jowling on his tight jawline and his neck has no sagging or slack skin that normally occurs at his age.

Being that Bruce Willis is bald, hiding plastic surgery scars would not be an easy task to achieve by a plastic surgeon — although not impossible. If plastic surgery is behind Bruce’s youthful look, then there is a small probability that he had a mini-facelift to address his neck and jaw. More realistically, however, it appears that Bruce is just using Botox injections or Restylane to erase the lines and wrinkles on his face and probably has had more than one chemical peel, or dermabrasion, or laser skin resurfacing along the years to smooth his skin.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn spoke with Make Me Heal and was equally amazed by Willis’s age-defying look at the awards show. “I just saw the show [2007 MTV Film Awards] and I thought he looked great. Definitely younger than most men his age. He may be using some Botox to decrease the wrinkles in the forehead, crow’s feet, and frown lines. Probably has had laser treatments and/or chemical peels tokeep his skin tight and rejuvenated,” says Dr. Youn. However, Dr. Youn did sound caution against jumping to the conclusion that invasive plastic surgery was involved and said, “I doubt any real surgery though. Hard to hide the scars with the bald head!”

Given Bruce’s close relationship with ex-wife Demi, it is likely that over a family get-together Demi gave him some advice about how to turn back the clock. And her favorite plastic surgeon’s telephone number.

Hugh Hefner Is Getting Plastic Surgery

Posted on May 21st, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male/Men's Plastic Surgery by Sam Stets

Hugh Hefner, Plastic Surgery, Face LiftHugh Hefner, the oldest sexually active womanizer on the planet, is planning to go under the knife soon for a face lift. The 81-year old founder of Playboy believes that there is nothing wrong with men wanting to have plastic surgery. Hefner has already had a neck lift and teeth implants.

“I’m thinking of having a little face-lift. There is nothing wrong with plastic surgery. I think it is absolutely fine for men - I have already had teeth implants, and a few years ago I had a neck tuck.”

With Hugh Hefner having to tend to his three blonde girlfriends — Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson — it is only normal that he wants to look his best for his companions.

Hefner’s openness about wanting to have plastic surgery epitomizes the change in men’s attitudes about cosmetic surgery. Men are now flocking to have plastic surgery to be more competitive in the workplace and also to look more attractive for their mates and themselves. While 10-15 years ago, the idea of a man getting plastic surgery was considered as un-manly, men today are not ashamed about being into self-grooming and plastic surgery. We are dealing with a whole different set of things physically now because we live so much longer,” says Hugh Hefner.

It should not be forgotten that Hugh Hefner and his Playboy empire have played an important role in spreading plasic surgery to the masses by featuring women with large breast implants and broadcasting the message that this is the modern man’s ideal of female beauty. Playboy has helped reshape the female standards of beauty and make the breast implants look very appealing to men and women. The plastic surgery industry is forever indebted to Hefner for his contribution in popularizing breast implants. Hefner helped build the plastic surgery world and plastic surgery has helped build the house of Playboy.

We love Hef and wish him the very best, as a well-executed face lift should help keep Hef’s mojo running and extend his sex life for a couple more decades to come.

David Beckham Bitten By The Plastic Surgery Bug

Posted on May 8th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male/Men's Plastic Surgery by Sam Stets

David Beckham, Botox, Plastic SurgeryNewly transplanted Los Angeles resident David Beckham has been bitten by the local plastic surgery bug and appears to be dabbling in Botox and other filler injections to get rid of his wrinkles and has even donned a blonde surfer hairdo to blend in his new surroundings. The 32-year old former captain of the England soccer team used to have a large wrinkle running across his forehead and some crows’ feet extending from his eyes. These imperfections have all but disappeared, as the bleach blond Beckham is sporting a flawless forehead and no crows’ feet. Given his wife Victoria “Posh’’s love for plastic surgery (she’s had 3 breast augmentations to date), it is not a far stretch to think that her husband would join her in her cosmetic escapades (read more about Victoria Beckham’s Plastic Surgery past. An insider suggests that the couple may have been having cosmetic doctors over at their home for some botox parties. Victoria often has therapists and doctors visiting their Madrid home and some friends have hinted they may be doing more than providing them with facials and peels.”

London-based plastic surgeon Dr. Alex Karidis confirms his belief that Beckham had botox. “He used to have a large line across his forehead which seems to have vanished. He has all the hallmarks of a botox forehead. He also appears to have had a lift on his eyebrows, that can often happen when botox is injected into that area.”

“And there were quite deep crow’s feet around the eyes a couple of years ago. These seem to have almost disappeared. Changes like this in other celebrities are usually thanks to botox.

Additionally, it seems that some of David Beckham’s naso-labial lines (laugh lines that extend from the nose to the mouth) may have also been treated to some injection fillers such as Restylane. Dr. Karidis adds, “It could be that he’s also used fillers on his nose-to-mouth lines. These used to be quite prominent in pictures. Usually these things get worse not better with age. But Beckham seems to have lost them and looks much younger now.”

David Beckham is one of the best looking athletes in the world and while we are all for cosmetic enhancements when they’re needed, we think Beckham really does not need them in this case. The old Beckham is much hotter than this new blond, expressionless blond Ken Doll reincarnation of himself. For once, don’t listen to your wife and keep them doctors out of your house.

The question that comes to mind is whether young impressionable male fans who have been changing their hairdos in response to Beckham’s ever-changing hairstyle will also be Botoxing it like Beckham.

Kevin Costner’s Hair Transplant

Posted on May 2nd, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male/Men's Plastic Surgery by Sam Stets

Kevin Costner, Hair Transplant, Plastic SurgeryKevin Costner’s full head of hair is raising some questions about whether the actor has gotten plastic surgery by way of a hair transplant in the last few months. Pictures of the 52-year old actor show a hair-raising change from the actor having a significant receding hair line as late as seven months ago (as shown in a September 11, 2006 photo) to having fullness in the previously balding frontal area (as shown in a March 14, 2007 photo).

The National Enquirer quotes a leading hair transplant surgeon who believes that the actor had the surgery. “In my opinion, there’s definitely a change,” said Dr. Craig Ziering. “There’s greater fullness in the frontal zone, in the hairline.” Dr. Ziering adds, “The only thing that would make this kind of a change, in a six-month period, would be a hair transplant procedure.”

The surgery results look very natural and complimentary to Kevin Costner’s face. The new hairline has most likely been created with micro hair grafts, whereby single hairs have been methodically transplanted in a way that imitates how a real hairline of a 50 year old would look like. For this reason, the hairline looks natural and avoids the “plug” look that plagued older hair transplants of a decade ago. Were it not for having before photos of the actor, the hair change would have not been detectable to the eye. Costner looks all the better.

While it is quite clear that Kevin Costner had the hair transplant procedure, some wonder if being remarried to the 33-year old pregnant Christine Baumgartner has anything to do with his efforts to look younger. After all, Costner has always been a rugged-looking man who seemed to embrace the aging gracefully philosophy. Then again, keeping the wife happy is more important than staying true to any life philosophy.

Has Bono Had Plastic Surgery?

Posted on April 30th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male/Men's Plastic Surgery by Sam Stets

Bono, Plastic Surgery, Eyelid Surgery, Face LiftIn a surprise move, when Bono, the lead singer of U2 removed his tradmark sunglasses off in an appearance in New York, he revealed a remarkably fresh-faced, wrinkle-free and eyes-wide open look with no eye bags. The disappearance of Bono’s wrinkles and under eye-bags has prompted insiders and plastic surgeons to believe that Bono had plastic surgery, specifically a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) for his eyes and Botox injections to smooth his facial wrinkles. One plastic surgeon ventured as far as suggesting that the singer had a mid or lower face lift. This plastic surgery rumor may explain the appearance of a plaster that Bono was sporting back in December.

Being that the singer is almost always perpetually seen in sunglasses, swelling and bruising from an eyelid surgery can easily go unnoticed. The singer took off his sunglasses at a New York event celebrating the launch of a new third world documentary, We Are Together, after a young boy pointed at his face and prompted the singer to take off his sunglasses.

“I definitely think Bono has had lower blepharoplasty - lower eyelid surgery - which the plaster covered up back in December,” said UK-based plastic surgeon Dr. Lucy Glancey.

“He probably had quite a bit of bruising under the eye at this time - sometimes you get no bruising after surgery, sometimes you get bruising under just one eye, giving what looks like a black eye,” added Dr. Glancey.

“A proper black eye could take up to six weeks to heal, on top of slight scarring, which would explain why Bono has remained hidden under sunglasses until now,” add Dr. Glancey.

Bono’s fresh complexion compared to older photos of the singer suggest that he had some Botox or Restylane injections and may have also had gotten some peels. Dr. Glancey confirmed this saying, “As well as the eye lift, he has probably had Botox to lift his brows becuase there is still a skin overhang in this area which wouldn’t be there if he had had an upper blepharoplasty.”

Dr. Glancey also believes that the younger look is attributed to a mid or low face-lift, which addresses the facial areas below the cheeks, namely, the jaws and neck. “He also looks to have had Botox all around the eye area, resulting in a softening of the lines and, on top of this, a mid and low face-lift.

Whether all these procedures were done, Bono definitely looks good and is not overdone in any way.

“I think Bono has had a reasonably good result - his work hasn’t been overly done, and he just looks a lot fresher. I’m sure he’s pleased with the results which is why he’s so much happier to show off his face, ” says Dr. Glancey.

As a side note, an unauthorized biography published several years ago suggested that Bono considered having extensive liposuction.

Whatever Bono did, he remains a formidable person who is among the few caring and altruistic rockstars in the world who spearheads many humanitarian efforts, not to mention the singer of one of the best bands of the modern era. We’ll take Bono in any flavor, with or without plastic surgery, which he has every right to have like anyone else.
