Momlogic is rumored to be the next wave of plastic surgery TV shows.

Momlogic will focus on Moms and their plastic surgery addictions as well as other unusual maternal situations, like dealing with divorce or hoarding.

Sounds to Make Me Heal like it’s already been done with The Real Housewives series, but who are we to trash talk trash TV? After all, it’s the most entertaining programming there is.

Leg Lengthening Plastic Surgery

Posted on July 21st, 2008 in Weird, Fun, Strange & Tragic Plastic Surgery by Erica Hurtz

In a world where height is greatly valued, some people are willing to undergo brutal, greatly painful and enormously expensive leg lengthening plastic surgery to gain an extra couple of inches.

Leg Lengthening, Plastic Surgery

Leg lengthening is often done in other countries, with regulations that are different from those in the United States. The cost is often upwards of $100,000 and typically patients gain only 2-4 inches. To cut costs, and spend only $10,000, patients travel to all kinds of foreign countries and return with more problems than just being on the small side.

On his blog, Dr. Anthony Youn describes the exceedingly painful procedure, “This is a surgery where the bones of the legs are sawed in half and then gradually allowed to spread apart as new bone grows between the two broken halves. It’s called the Ilizarov technique, and has been used for healing fractures for years. It’s only recently making news as a technique for making a person taller.”

He also warns, “Unfortunately, bone lengthening is a tedious process which can result in a major complication like osteomyelitis (infection of the bone).”

Recovery time is significantly longer than other cosmetic procedures at 10 weeks, rather than 10 days. The surgery carries great risks, including deformity and infection. Still there are an estimated 4,000 men in the world that have elected to undergo the procedure.

15-Year-Old Prepares for Future Plastic Surgery

Posted on July 14th, 2008 in Weird, Fun, Strange & Tragic Plastic Surgery by Lisa Stern

Jordan is a famous voluptuous English model who has had multiple plastic surgery procedures, most notoriously to make her breasts a size 30G and more recently, a breast reduction to make them more manageable for her non-modeling career (read about Jordan’s Plastic Surgery). While Jordan is looking to move away from plastic surgery, one British teen wants to become the next Jordan.

Weird Plastic Surgery, Breast ImplantsJordan, Breast Implants

Emma Hughes is a 15 year old who can’t wait to emulate the surgically enhanced glamour model Jordan. And her number one supporter is her mother.

Ashley Hughes, Emma’s mother is currently working five cleaning jobs to support Emma’s dream and future surgical enhancements.

Because Emma is too young to legally use a tanning salon, she has purchased a tanning bed for their private home. She is saving for Emma’s future plastic surgeries, including breast augmentation(s) and veneers.

Mrs Hughes told Hello! magazine, “When Emma was 13, we watched a documentary on glamour models, including Jordan. Emma said, ‘I’m prettier than her. I want to be a glamour model’.”

“Now I hold down as many jobs as I can to ensure she’ll have all the beauty treatments, tanning sessions and cosmetic surgery she needs to achieve her dream.”

Emma praises Jordan and wants to be just like her, “Jordan’s my idol. She’s turned a modelling career into books and a TV show. She’s made millions.”

“I have to look the part. I’m already planning a boob job so they look more like Jordan’s, despite the fact that I’m already a 34F.”

Mrs. Hughes has already spent a reported £15,000 on salon treatments and says, “I’m not worried about this tanorexia nonsense, or skin cancer from sunbeds. It hasn’t affected her health. It’s making her confident and beautiful. All the treatments will give her the edge. They’re going to help her be a star.”

Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong Around the World

Posted on July 1st, 2008 in Weird, Fun, Strange & Tragic Plastic Surgery by Erica Hurtz

In this edition of Weird, Fun & Tragic Plastic Surgery, we turn to the morbid side of plastic surgery, as we wanted to make everyone aware of plastic surgery gone bad from around the world to reinforce the importance of getting the right plastic surgeon and also getting your research and physical examination done ahead of surgery to know if you are a suitable candidate for plastic surgery. To lighten things a bit, we also included a few interesting tidbits about unusual cosmetic procedures being done around the globe.

Australian Woman Dies after Day Liposuction Surgery

Lauren Edgar, 28, underwent a day, outpatient liposuction on her legs in early March. Three days later she went to Flinders Medical Centre’s emergency department complaining of pain, illness and swelling.

She was found to have gas gangrene and after being treated, at the medical center, she was transferred to Royal Adelaide Hospital to receive treatment in its hyperbaric chamber. Edgar died on March 10 from multiple organ failure caused by the gas gangrene.

The coroner is investigating the procedure and Lauren’s family is expressing concern about her limited post-op care, as it was a day surgery, which limited the amount of aftercare she received. According to Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery president Dr Daniel Fleming, liposuction is performed as a day surgery around the world, without overnight monitoring.

He also said, “My understanding is that it was an extremely rare type of infection. It would be incorrect to get the idea that the doctor has done something wrong. Anybody can contract the infection at any time and it’s not necessarily linked to liposuction.”

“This infection occurs tragically in about four in one million people, some of whom have had no surgery at all.”

Police Release Hospital Staff Involved with Death of Liposuction Patient in Philippines

Mary Jane Arciaga, 30, died while undergoing a liposuction at the Borough Medical Care Institute, located in Eastwood City in Barangay Bagumbayan, Philippines.

Three doctors and three nurses: Anesthesiologist Dr. Nylene Arizala-Tan, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Peregrino Lorenzo VII, assistant surgeon Dr. Joel Unson, nurse aides Joey Budomo, Fionna Francisco and Djoanah Melissa Cave, who were facing homicide charges after the patient died on their watch, were released by Quezon City police.

The patient died four hours into a liposuction procedure. Her body is being held for an autopsy to see if the doctors and operators did anything wrong. Senior Superintendent Rudy Mabanag of Quezon City said that experts suspect the cause of death could be a possible anesthesia overdose.

Mary Jane had recently returned to the Philippines from Dubai. A month earlier, she underwent a successful tummy tuck from the same hospital.

Mary Jane is the latest plastic surgery in which the competency of Philipino doctors has been called into question.

South African Tummy Tuck Leaves Patient Sick and Unhappy

Lesley Lynch, a 57-year old mother of two was left with hanging skin flaps and unsightly scars after her tummy tuck performed in South Africa went awry.

After returning home to Scotland, Lesley got an infection in the wound and ended up having to have the procedure corrected.

Last June, top restorative surgeon Awf Quaba, who is based in the burns and plastic surgery unit at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, performed a breast reduction and corrected her “pockets” of skin flaps nearly a year after the botched operation took place.

Lesley is happy with her corrected results “at long last.” And she says, “I’d warn anyone thinking about going abroad for surgery to think very carefully.”

Pubic Hair Transplants

In South Korea and Italy, women are reportedly getting hair transplanted to their pubic region. Apparently, a hairy vagina is considered a sign of fertility.

In the United States, pubic hair as a sign of sex appeal went out with shoulder pads. American women are much inclined to try to laser or wax their privates as opposed to implanting their vaginas with pubic hair.

Mother Dies From Heart Attack 48 Hours After Plastic Surgery

Just two days after having liposuction on her thighs, mother-of-two Pauline Bainbridge suffered a massive heart attack and died. So far investigators do not have a cause for the death, as the hospital that administered the procedure was reputed and Mrs. Bainbridge was in great physical health. Her husband said “We’re not blaming anyone. We don’t know why she died. It’s a terrible tragedy. But it could have been a complication from the operation. The doctors said it could have been a blood clot or an aneurism. We’ll have to wait and see what the coroner says.” Our hearts go out to the grieving family. (Source: Daily Mail)

Cookies That Make Your Boobs Grow

Breast Augmentation, Implants, CookiesIf you’re looking for an alternative to breast implants, there is a new option on the horizon. If you eat two F-Cup cookies per day, your breasts will supposedly grow bigger to an F-cup. Each cookie contains 50mg of a “miracle” breast enhacing herb called Pueraria Mirifica. The manufactuer doesn’t know how many cookies you’ll have to eat until you see results, but assures consumers that the cookies will expand your breasts. (Source: Dollymix)

Three Liposuction Deaths At Arizona Clinic

Authorities have opened a criminal investigation on the Normann Medical Group, where three patients died following liposuction. This unfortunate case highlights the need to research the doctor and their office credentials, as Dr. Peter Normann, Dr. Gary Page (a homeopathic doctor) and his staff members were illegally administering anesthesia without having a formal license or any training. Breast Implant Remains May Lead to Finding Murder Victim

A breast implant found with human remains in a Franklin County swamp earlier this month may be connected with the suspicious disappearance of a Lilburn woman. Leslie Adams, 40, of Gwinnett County was reported missing on October 25, 2005. Blood and a shell casing were found at the foot of her bed in her apartment. Adams, a hairstylist and mother of two, had a temporary protective order against her ex-boyfriend, whose phone records showed that he had placed several calls to her on the day she was reported missing. Authorities found a breast implant along with the remains, and Adams reportedly had breast augmentation. (Source: Franklin County Citizen)

The New Non-Surgical Cheek Lift: The Cheek Toner

Cheek Toner, AugmentationJapan has come up with yet another useless invention, an egg-themed torture device that is supposed to firm up the cheeks by rolling plastic patches designed to look like plastic sunny-side-up eggs over the face. The manufacturers claim that the Cheek toner also helps achieve rosier cheeks. (source: Plasticized)

Suicide Rate Higher Among Women With Breast Implants

Across the six studies, the suicide rate of women who received cosmetic breast implants is approximately twice the expected rate based on estimates of the general population. The first study of this issue suggested that the rate of suicide among women with breast implants was greater than that of women who underwent other forms of cosmetic surgery. Women interested in breast augmentation who present with a history of psychopathology or those who are suspected by the plastic surgeon of having some form of psychopathology should undergo a mental health consultation before surgery. Boza, Breast BeerBoza: Beer That Grows Your Breasts

Boza is a millet ale made from fermented wheat flour and yeast and it is being snapped up by ar owners, shopkeepers and shoppers across Europe. Woman With Botched Breast Implants To Lose Her Breasts Due To Cancer

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A 31-year old woman who wanted a breast augmentation to please her husband ended up with a devastating result, as she now will need to have both her breasts removed in order to save her life. The woman, known as “Tay”, got a breast enlargement at the advice of her beautician. Trusting her beautician, Tay showed up for her four-hour surgery in a makeshift clinic inside a hotel room and a month later suffered from excruciating chest pains. When she complained to the “doctor”, he promptly reimbursed her half of the surgery fee and said that he would refer her to a specialist who would remove the substance that was causing the pain in her breasts. The doctor never called Tay again and has since gone missing, while the beautifician has denied any involvement with the botched surgery.

Now, both of Tay’s breasts need to be removed as the substance injected in her botched surgery led to lumps that are cancerous. The substance that was injected into Tay has been identified as something that can only be used on the face.

“In March, I felt several lumps on my breasts, and after consulting a medical doctor he told me that I need to have both my breasts removed as the lumps were cancerous,” said Tay.

This tragic story highlights the importance of needing to seek out a qualified surgeon and the need to have surgery in a hospital or professional clinic setting. (Source: The Star)

Weird, Fun, Strange & Tragic Plastic Surgery During May

Posted on May 18th, 2007 in Weird, Fun, Strange & Tragic Plastic Surgery by Sam Stets

Weekly Make Me Heal Column

It’s been a downbeat week in the world of Weird, Fun, Strange & Tragic Plastic Surgery news. We did try to pepper the sad stories with some fun cosmetic surgery factoids. Here’s the latest and greatest…

Patient Suffers Infection And Loses Eight Fingers And Both Feet

Tampa Bay, Florida. Sally Lucia suffered horrific side effects following her tummy tuck and liposuction in 2001. Within months of her surgeries, an infection appeared and became so bad that her surgeons needed to remove eight of her fingers and both her feet. The complications suffered from the tummy tuck alone required 18 more surgeriesto save Lucia’s life. Today, Lucia is in a court battle with Memorial Hospital and the surgeon who worked there, blaming them for disfiguring her. The defense lawyers for the hospital and Dr. Haedicke, the surgeon who operated on Lucia, deny any wrongdoing. Lucia claims that the doctor waited too long to help her as she suffered from complications after her surgery.

Dr. Greenwald, a popular plastic surgeon in Tampa Bay who is not involved in the case, said “Every complication is a horror story because you cry with your patients… You feel it.” Dr. Greenwald recommends patients do a lot of research, interview several doctors, insist on good credentials from industry-approved credentialing boards, and then choose a Doctor with the experience level to have seen complications before. Guiness World Record For Largest Breast Implants Is Held By..
World's Biggest Breast Implants, AugmentationThe Guiness World Record for largest augmented breasts is held by model, stripper, and adult film star Maxi Mounds, whose measurements are 42M-26-36 and whose breasts weight 20 pounds each. Maxi Mounds has an under breast measurement of 36 inches (91.44 cm) and an around chest-over-nipple measurement of 60.5 in (153.67 cm). Maxi’s breasts were augmented with string breast implants (polypropylene breast implants), which are implants that continue to grow after being implanted in the patient. Typically used by women who want to grow their breasts to a monstrous size, the implants are made of polypropylene which is a synthetic material that expands upon absorbing fluid in the body. String breast implants are typically used only by women in the adult industry and are not FDA approved and not available in the United States.

English Woman Dies After Breast Reduction in Turkey

A Norfolk, UK woman died of heart failure an hour after leaving a Turkish hospital following a breast reduction operation. 62-year-old Lynne Foster-Banks had a history of heart problems but was advised to go ahead with the operation by doctors at the private hospital in the resort of Bodrum after the removal of a fibroid lump found in a breast. Foster-Banks was also booked for a tummy tuck and liposuction that was to be performed the following day, the same day that Foster-Banks died. Now, nearly two years later her daughter Justine Winter is investigating the possibility of legal action in Turkey. The daughter told the hearing she felt the doctors had not taken into account the effect of such surgery on a woman of her mother’s age and with her medical history. (Source: EDP 24)

Renowned New Zealand Surgeon Botches Tummy Tuck, Lipo & Breast Reduction

An esteemed New Zealand surgeon is waiting to hear if a seriously botched breast reduction, tummy tuck and liposuction procedure performed on a 52-year old woman in July 2002 will see him found guilty of professional misconduct. The three surgical procedures have left the patient seriously disfigured. Nipple necrosis, dying infected breast tissue and necrosis in her belly button resulted in a second operation in which almost all her right breast was removed and a drain and bag was fitted into her belly button. Two months after the original operation, she woke to find her stomach split open. She says she wishes she had known the risks associated with her surgery.

Representing the Health and Disability Commission, Kristy McDonald QC said the surgeon failed to fulfill the duty of care he owed her. She said the negligence and malpractice in this case left it open for the tribunal to decide if the surgeon had brought discredit to the medical profession.

The surgeon defended all charges and denied responsibility for any negligence. Last week, the surgeon apologized for the first time, five years after the surgery. the patient heard the surgeon apologize for the first time, five years after the surgery. “I wish to apologize unreservedly as (the patient) has suffered an unsatisfactory outcome from which myself and my other staff have learnt much.” (Source: Stuff.co.nz)

Heterosexual Man With Breast Implants

Women are not the only people who get breast implants, as many transexuals also get them as part of their makeover. But one would not think that a heterosexual man would want to accessorize himself with a pair of breasts. Wrong. Magician Brian Zembic once bet someone $100,000 to get breast implants for a year. But after one year and upon winning the bet, Zembic decided to keep the implants which he’s still lugging around till today. His story is profiled in a book called The Man With $100,000 Breasts.
