Katherine Heigl: 27 Dresses and…new Breast Implants?

Posted on February 29th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Carrie Zender

Katherine Heigl, Breast Implants, Breast Augmentation

Newly married blonde bombshell Katherine Heigl proudly showed off her curves at Sunday night’s Oscars in an elegant red dress. Make Me Heal has been a fan of Katherine since her early days on television’s Roswell and has noticed that the Oscar presenter has lost her residual baby fat from those days. Yet it seems that some body parts have stayed rounder than ever, making us wonder if the twenty-nine year old star of 27 Dresses had a breast augmentation, as her breasts seem to have grown as much as her career.

In a spur of the moment interview with body-philosophy.net, Katherine has said she isn’t planning to have any plastic surgery in the near future, but she isn’t against it either, “I guess it depends on the situation, depends on who you are, what you think about yourself how important it is to you. I would never knock it because, who knows? I might be there one day so I’d give it{plastic surgery gift certificate} away now, but in twenty years, I might use it.”

But what about in years past? Her breasts seem very full and round, and we’re not the only ones that have noticed. Plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia says, “Breast implantation looks pretty likely here, as the recent images I have seen feature a much fuller breast than previously, with a typical implant shape.”

However, Katherine Heigl isn’t as skinny as many young starlets, so her breasts could be hers and not the work of a breast augmentation. She may carry her weight on top or wear clothes as cleverly tailored as the scrubs her character sports on Grey’s Anatomy.

Whether her breasts are real or the work of a plastic surgeon, Make Me Heal looks forward to the return of Grey’s Anatomy.

Rose Slims Down With Tummy Tuck

Posted on February 29th, 2008 in Personal Stories of Real People by MakeMeHeal.com Staff

Tummy Tuck Photos, Pictures, Before & After

See Rose’s Before & After Plastic Surgery Pictures Album.

37 year-old Rose Sawyer (username: vansmudge ) struggled with the idea of having a full tummy tuck with muscle repair for one year before taking the plunge early in 2008. She was terrified of the possibility that something would happen to her during surgery but knew that she wanted to change her 85 year-old looking stomach to one that would better fit her slim body. With an umbilical hernia, torn stomach muscles and 8 inches of extra skin, Rose knew that she needed to get a full tummy tuck. After consulting with three plastic surgeons, she chose one who was recommended to her and today, she is completely happy with her results. While still in the recovery process, Rose has gone from a size 12/14 a size 10/12 and her stomach has never looked better. For anyone thinking about plastic surgery, Rose says, “Make the decision for yourself and don’t worry about what others think of the decision.”

Please join us below for the complete interview with Rose.

Make Me Heal:When did you first have the idea to have your procedure?

Rose:After the birth of my twins (who were my 3rd and 4th children)

Make Me Heal:What were your motivations (physical, emotional, social, etc.) behind your decision to have the procedure(s)?

Rose:I am relatively young and in good shape but my stomach looked like it belonged on an 85-year-old woman. I have never really struggled with my weight so it was discouraging to be at a good weight and look down at my sagging stomach. More importantly, I have 3 bulging disks in my back and in order for me to do core strengthening to alleviate my back pain, I needed to repair my stomach muscles.

Make Me Heal:How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make?

Rose:It was a very difficult decision to make and it took me about a year to decide. I was really struggling with the idea of having elective surgery - I have 4 young children and was scared that something would happen to me. I finally decided that what had happened to my stomach was beyond normal and needed to be repaired.

Make Me Heal:Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?

Rose:My family and friends were 100% supportive and encouraged me to have the surgery but ultimately I made the decision completely on my own.

Make Me Heal:How did you research the procedure and come to decide on this particular procedure?

Rose:I consulted three plastic surgeons and got their names through word of mouth. I have a friend who is a doctor and she worked closely with the first surgeon I went to see. I used to work at a medical school so I got the second recommendation through people I used to work with. The third surgeon was referred to me by someone whose sister had had a TT and he was ultimately the one I went with. They all recommended the full TT with muscle repair because I had an umbilical hernia, torn stomach muscles and 8 inches of extra skin.

Make Me Heal:How did you come to choose your doctor?

Rose:I had 3 different consults and finally decided on my surgeon because he was the most experienced and the most confident. He used the latest pain management techniques and assured me I would not need a vertical incision. He made me feel very comfortable and he is also the recipient of several recognition awards.

Make Me Heal:Please discuss if you have any role in deciding the type of technique used for your surgery by the doctor, incision placements, implant brand, anesthesia type, etc.

Rose:I specifically asked for the pain pump and received it.

Make Me Heal:How did you prepare for the surgery?

Rose:I didn’t purchase any products but I did hire a full-time nanny for my children for the first 3 weeks. My kids are 6, 4, and 2.5 twins. My house is busy and physically demanding so I knew I needed the help.

Make Me Heal:How were you feeling the night before the surgery and on the moments before the surgery itself?

Rose:I was very nervous as the surgery date approached and just wanted to get it over with. I remember being very shaky on my ride to the hospital the morning of the surgery and the minute I had to see goodbye to my husband, I started to cry. I cried until the anesthesia kicked in! I was so scared of the pain I would feel afterwards and my lack of involvement with my kids when I came back home.

Make Me Heal:Please discuss the pain or discomfort you experienced during the recovery?

Rose:My recovery was physically as I expected but mentally I wasn’t prepared how down I would feel. For about 2 weeks I felt like I had postpartum blues and that was tough. Physically my body is healing very well. My most uncomfortable time was the first 3 days after surgery and I was in a ton of pain (and I have a high pain tolerance). I was crying and had to call my surgeon who determined that I wasn’t staying ahead of the pain meds.

Make Me Heal: What are your top recovery tips to other patients?

Rose:Stay ahead of the pain and be prepared to feel down even though you did an amazing thing

Make Me Heal:How long did you take off from work? What did you tell your co-workers about taking this time off? Did anyone notice your cosmetic procedures at work and what did you tell them if they asked about it?

Rose:I am a stay-at-home mom.

Make Me Heal:How happy are you with the results?

Rose:So far (4 weeks post-op) I am very happy.

Make Me Heal:How has your makeover impacted your life from personal, social, career, and other respects?

Rose:I feel more confident and more like my old self. I also have my confidence back.

Make Me Heal:Would you have done anything differently if you had the chance?

Rose:No

Make Me Heal:What is your final word of advice to other people considering the procedure you had?

Rose:Make the decision for yourself and don’t worry about what others think of the decision.

Make Me Heal:Was Make Me Heal beneficial to you along your journey?

Rose:Very! I wish I had known about the site before my surgery!

Tilda Swinton: Botox or Born Lucky?

Posted on February 29th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Oscars Plastic Surgery Coverage & Other Award Shows by Jet H. Ross

Best Supporting Actress Winner Tilda Swinton was striking in a flowing caftan-like dress at Sunday’s Oscar ceremony. But what was even more striking to Make Me Heal was the total lack of wrinkles and lines on the 47-year old actress’ forehead. Make Me Heal suspects an injectable filler such as Botox to be responsible for the flawless forehead.

Tilda Swinton, Botox

Celebrity plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul Nassif agrees with our assumption, and tells Make Me Heal, “Tilda has a perfectly smooth forehead, I am thinking she’s had Botox.” The lack of lines is especially noticeable when the actress makes facial expressions, which shows deep crow’s feet around the eyes, yet retains a wrinkle-free forehead. Otherwise, it seems that Tilda Swinton is naturally blessed with good genes that give her an unusually taut neck and jawline for her age and she has not resorted to any other noticeable plastic surgery.

Botox is a basic staple of the preparation of actor nominees hitting the red carpet, so it could be that the Botox injections are a new beauty accessory for Tilda, because the actress was sporting some lines in her forehead as recently as 2007.

In either case, Make Me Heal was pleased to see the amazing actress honored and looks forward to more of Tilda’s work.

Jessica Alba Wows At The Oscars With Breast Implants

Posted on February 27th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Oscars Plastic Surgery Coverage & Other Award Shows by Carrie Zender

Jessica Alba, Breast Augmentation, Implants

Becoming a mother may not be the only change Jessica Alba’s body has gone through recently. From her early days as television’s Dark Angel to her recent walk down the Oscar’s red carpet on Sunday, Jessica Alba’s breasts may have been augmented with plastic surgery, not impending motherhood.

As Alba’s popularity has grown from sci-fi heroine to movie star, her body has slimmed down, but her breasts have not. Make Me Heal consulted plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia about the possibility of a breast augmentation, who has also noted the change in the beauty’s body.

“Her [Jessica Alba] newer images seem very suggestive of small implants. Just a few years ago she seemed to have next to nothing breast-wise,” says Dr. Di Saia. In any case, if breast implants are in the mix, the enhancements are well done and small enough to suit the small frame of the actress. It appears that Jessica has augmented from small B cup breasts to a medium C breast size.

On the other hand, Jessica Alba’s breasts, though noticeably perky, could also be due to a flattering wardrobe of push-up bras and inserts as opposed to plastic surgery. Or maybe, she was fortunate enough to lose weight everywhere but her breasts, making her chest appear fuller than before. And of course pregnancy always helps enhance the chest region as well.

Whether or not Jessica Alba has undergone breast augmentation, Make Me Heal wishes the Oscar presenter well on her impending journey of motherhood.

Tara’s Breast Reduction Reignites Her Passion For Running

Posted on February 22nd, 2008 in Personal Stories of Real People by MakeMeHeal.com Staff

Breast Reduction, Photos, Before, After

See Tara’s Before & After Plastic Surgery Pictures Album.

With her 38DD breasts, Tara (username: Taratallen1975) found normal activities like exercising impossible. Through her two pregnancies, Tara’s breasts grew larger and saggy and she found herself experiencing greater back, shoulder, and neck pain. As soon as her doctor mentioned the idea of a breast reduction, Tara knew that her 38DD breasts needed to be reduced. Tara googled until she found the Make Me Heal Message Boards where she found informative before and after pictures. In February of 2007, Tara scheduled a breast reduction with Dr. Kimberley Meathrell in Canada to transform her breasts into a smaller 36C. Today, Tara couldn’t be happier as she regained her confidence to become the athlete she always knew she could be.

Tara’s advice for anyone contemplating plastic surgery is:

“I would say to go for it. It really changes your life for the better. Less back aches, nicer bras, fitted shirts. Seriously, they didn’t even look this good when I was fifteen!”

Please join us for an interview with the lovely Tara:

Make Me Heal: When did you first have the idea to have your procedure?

Tara: I first had the idea after having my kids and breastfeeding them. This caused my breasts to become larger and very saggy. I found it difficult to exercise (as in running or aerobics) even in a sports bra; I also found myself getting more upper back/shoulder/neck strain. I then talked to my doctor about it and she mentioned the possibility of a BR.

Make Me Heal: How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make?

Tara: It was an easy decision to make. Because of my size and my subsequent problems from my heavy breasts it was determined that the procedure would be covered by my provincial health plan (I’m from Ontario, Canada).

Make Me Heal: Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?

Tara: My family and friends were very supportive for this surgery. At first my best friend questioned my motives; was it for my overall health or for vanity purposes? I explained to her it was a bit of both. She did come around and became supportive. However, whether I had my friends and family’s approval or not I would have gone through with it.

Make Me Heal: How did you research the procedure and come to decide on this particular procedure?

Tara: I googled the procedure, lol. That’s how I found the MMH board and it was such a blessing. I was a more of a lurker but I gained tons of knowledge from the ladies on the board.. It was also helpful to actually see the befores and afters of the procedure so I kinda knew what the outcome would be like.

Make Me Heal: How did you come to choose your doctor?

Tara: I didn’t choose her. My doctor referred me to her and I liked her on the spot. This was the only time I saw her before surgery. She told me of the different techniques of BR and gave me her opinion on what she thought was best but in the end let me have the final decision which of course I agreed with her!

Make Me Heal: How did you prepare for the surgery?

Tara: I didn’t really do much to prepare. I booked time off work and my husband booked time off to be able to help me and deal with the kids. I also rented a bunch of movies to keep me busy for the first couple of days.

Make Me Heal: How were you feeling the night before the surgery and on the moments before the surgery itself?

Tara: I felt excited. I took some pictures the night before to remind myself of what was leaving. The hardest part was getting to sleep because I was so excited. I couldn’t wait to see the new me.

Make Me Heal: How was the recovery process?

Tara: I ended up being in the hospital for two nights instead of one because of a blood clot scare. It didn’t end up being a blood clot thankfully and on day three I went home. My husband stayed home for a week and helped me and by week two I was getting around a lot better by myself. The worst part of the recovery was definitely the first week. It got better each week thereafter.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss the pain or discomfort you experienced during the recovery?

Tara: I found my pain to be at its worst at nighttime. It was manageable though. I’d rather do the surgery again than give birth again! It was weird getting used to the numb feeling in my nipples (the feeling has since come back) and the deep itch I’d get in my breast that I just couldn’t itch, lol.

Make Me Heal: What are your top recovery tips to other patients?

Tara: I’d say my best tip is to rest as much as you can the first week, keep up on your painkillers and keep up your liquids! Let others handle housework, laundry and kids.

Make Me Heal: How long did you take off from work? What did you tell your co-workers about taking this time off? Did anyone notice your cosmetic procedures at work and what did you tell them if they asked about it?

Tara: I took two weeks off from work and I told my co-workers the truth. A little awkward since I’m the only female there (there are six of us) but it saved me from having to go into too much detail too!

Make Me Heal: How happy are you with the results?

Tara: I am absolutely thrilled with the results. I am seven months post surgery and I couldn’t be happier. My PS is a miracle worker I swear!

Make Me Heal: How has your makeover impacted your life from personal, social, career, and other respects?

Tara: Since the BR I feel happier. I can now buy shirts that fit both my waist and my chest and I can buy pretty bras! I also don’t have to spend a large amount per bra to fit properly. I feel the BR gave me more confidence. Because of the BR I am now an avid runner and do a lot of cardio.

Make Me Heal: Would you have done anything differently if you had the chance?

Tara: NO!

Make Me Heal: What is your final word of advice to other people considering the procedure you had?

Tara: I would say to go for it. It really changes your life for the better. Less back aches, nicer bras, fitted shirts. Seriously, they didn’t even look this good when I was fifteen!

Make Me Heal: Was Make Me Heal beneficial to you along your journey?

Tara: Absolutely. It allayed a lot of my fears and helped me be excited about my surgery.

See Tara’s Before & After Plastic Surgery Pictures Album.

Breast Implants Before vs. After Pregnancy

Posted on February 22nd, 2008 in Breast Augmentation, Implants, Reduction, Surgery, Procedures & Breakthroughs by MakeMeHeal.com Staff

By Dr. Michael C. Pickart, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Breast Implants: Should I Wait Until I’ve Completed All My Pregnancies?

It’s up to you.

Many young women are interested both in breast augmentation and in having children. They frequently wonder…

  • Are breast implants dangerous for the baby?
  • Do breast implants create issues when breast feeding?
  • Will the implants still look good after pregnancies?

My short answers:

  • Among mothers with implants, breast feeding is safe for the babies.
  • On the other hand, breast implants may decrease the chance (by about 5-10%) that a mother can successfully breast feed.
  • Breast implants may improve chest appearance both before and after pregnancies and breast feeding.
  • Ultimately, a patient must decide for herself after she has had a chance to consider the facts….

Here are my long answers, with all the facts:

A woman who is interested in breast implants and in motherhood should weigh the plusses and minuses of both options.

One school of thought is to do the surgery when you want it. If you want a breast augmentation now, then do it now! You might not have your children for another 5-10 years. Why should you go without the implants for that relatively long period of time?

Moreover, breast implants are safe for children. They do not contaminate the breast milk.

And implants may actually improve breast app
