Album DescriptionI went to Costa Rica for my procedure. I am over a year out now and very satisfied. . Contact me for more info on my doctor. He is very busy and cannot talk to everyone who sees my photos!
At one year plus, my scars are nearly invisible. I don't have any lingering numbness. I am so happy to have lost my turkey neck!

My Personal Statement:
I first thought about a facelift when I noticed my sagging jowls and neck in photos from a family reunion in 2005, when I was 50. The matronly look did not square with my idea of myself as young and cute! I come by my jowls naturally, as my grandmothers both had droopy cheeks. I was not ready to look so much like my grandmothers, as much as I loved them both. I had a friend who had gone to Costa Rica to have a facelift. She looked wonderful. She could have afforded a Beverly Hills surgeon, but chose Dr. Marten for his wealth of experience. I did not really want to spend the $10,000 or more for the procedures I needed here in Northern California. My procedure in Costa Rica was under $5000. I am an adventurous type, so I thought a trip to Costa Rica would be interesting. I was nervous as the date approached. My grown daughters were incredulous, as they thought I was just perfect as I was. My husband was supportive as were my co-workers. Well, I flew down there, and before I had much time to be scared, the operation was over. The recuperation was fairly easy and nearly painless. The sensations were more "uncomfortable" than painful. There was itching, tingling and numbness that gradually subsided. I met some very nice ladies at the Clinica. We got to know each other well and had fun taking taxis to have lunch and do some sightseeing. I got in lots of reading! At the end of the 12 days in Costa Rica, alas, I felt lonely and homesick. The trip home was very tiring. My mom and one of my daughters came to the airport to pick me up. They were worried that I wouldn't look like myself. They were relieved, exclaiming, "you look like yourself, only better!". My husband was pleased, my co-workers were complimentary. Now, a year later, my new self image is totally incorporated. At first, I thought maybe people were staring at me and wondering what was different. Now, I pretty much take my new face for granted. However, when I do my hair and see my firm neck and jaw in the mirror, I am very pleased! I work with young, pretty women, and it is nice to think that I look 10 years younger than I am. I feel and act youthful and I am glad my face matches my spirit.
My message to others would be: Don't be afraid of traveling to another country to have surgery, after you have researched your surgeon. I would also recommend being connected to a network like Make Me Heal for estra support during and after the process. Thanks, MMH!
