My Personal Statement:
A lot of people don't understand why people get cosmetic surgery. I have been an advocate for it since I understood what it was. Here's a bit of history on my experiences, many dating way, way back. A lot of it is personal, however until you walk in someone else's shoes, don't judge why someone has lipo, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, or anything else. You can't possibly understand how they feel when they see themselves in the mirror.
I've had body image issues since I was a small child. Be careful when you call a kid fat or chubby because it can do some serious damage. I was never fat or obese, but I had thick legs. I was always active and never fit properly into clothing. As far as I can remember, I've had these issues. I'm not talking as far back as high school, I'm talking about being 5 years old.
Fast forward to the age where I can begin making my own decisions. I became bulimic when I was 13 or 14 and that continued until I was in my early 20's. I would starve myself and take lots of speed hoping that one day I'd be thin and get rid of my thighs. Guess what, it never happened. I got small, but you would never ever think that I could possibly have an eating disorder. I also exercised through the majority of this time as well. Being fit never did anything to rid of my butt or thighs; ugh, the pain!
As I got older, I rid of my self-destructing behavior and continued to exercise and eat a daily diet of 2-3 bagels, a lot of caffeine and a load of cigarettes. I wasn't binging and purging anymore, but my diet was horrifying. I didn't really eat because of all the caffeine and cigarettes.
After nearly 15 years of being dissatisfied with my body I decided to just let it go. I ate anything I wanted, drank a lot of alcohol and reached a size 12! I was mortified once I realized I had gotten fat. I'm only 5'2" so I was really big. I was almost 150lbs. and miserable. That lasted almost a year and then I began the South Beach Diet. I lost 25 lbs. and felt great. I started working out again and well, still not satisfied. I could build muscle in my legs, but you could never see it because there was such a HUGE layer of fat.
Since the South Beach Diet, I stopped smoking and started exercising again. I've been eating extremely healthy for years and take a lot of glyconutrient supplements to keep my body in tip-top shape. I've been a size 6 for the last 4-5 years I believe, the same size I was when I had a diet of caffeine and cigarettes.
My decision to have liposuction was any easy one. I've been wanting the surgery since I was in my early 20's, the same time I stopped my destructive behavior. Now, I'm 33 years old and I am so absolutely pleased that I had it done. My procedure was performed by Dr. Bruce White at St. Louis Cosmetic Surgery. I had 3950 cc's removed from my hips, lower abs, butt, knees, inner/outer/anterior thighs. I am able to look at myself for the first time in my life with no disgust. I can try on clothes and not have a breakdown because nothing fit. I'm not just a "pretty in the face" girl anymore. I have never felt this good about my being or being alive. The only thing I can do is continue to do what I do and watch my body shrink. I'm only on day 26 and my life has completely changed.
