It can take six weeks or more for the stitches to dissolve.

Stitch removal can be painful because you are already irritated and then they go poking around down there.

Some of the irritation can be from the stitches. I had a reaction to mine, which made it feel like my labia were on fire. I begged my doctor to take some of them out. You will get almost instant relief once the irritating ones are gone.

How many days does it take for them to dissolve? I have heard stitch removal can be quite painful...Is it possible that some of the swelling is actually from the stitches?

Make sure you keep an eye on the swelling. You can see where your skin is looking like bubbles or teeth between the sutures. They look like they are too tight. Mine were like that and when the sutures disolved, my labia stayed that way and didn't smooth out. I would ask to get your stitches out sooner rather than later.
